Abstract

A system which diverts (5) non-sewage domestic waste water through a filter (6) into a storage tank (12). The water can be pumped out of the tank by an electric pump (9). This is operated by a switch (10). The water is distributed through a pipe (11) to various points of use ( garden hose, irrigation, sprinkler, garage, etc.). Excess water overflows into the mains drainage system (4) through an overflow pipe (8).

Description

I

TITLE

Integrated, domestic, non-sewage waste water filtration, storage and distribution system.

BACKROUND

This invention relates to the use of non-sewage waste water produced in the home. This includes shower, bath, wash hand basin, kitchen sink, waste water. At present this is emptied into the general domestic drainage system together with sewage waste.

Appropriately filtered non-sewage waste water, not containing caustic chemical products, can be utilized for various uses including; watering of plants, trees and grass lawns; washing of cars, windows, patios etc. With the current change in climatic conditions and the year on year decrease in annual rainfall it is important to conserve existing fresh water supplies.

STATEMENT OF INVENTION

Non-sewage domestic waste water is presently channeled through a series of waste pipes and gullies from the source (showers, baths, sinks, washing machines, etc) to the drainage system where it combines with the sewage waste.

This invention channels this waste water through a filter into a storage tank. This water can then be pumped out, using an electric pump, from the storage tank, and distributed through appropriate pipes to various points of use.

ADVANTAGES

The filtration, storage and distribution of the domestic non-sewage waste water will primarily save water. Activities which do not need "fresh" water ( such as car washing, window washing, watering of plants! trees! shrubs and lawns etc.) can be carried out using the filtered and stored water. This results in less use of "mains" water and in times of drought it overcomes any restrictions which may be imposed such as hosepipe bans.

INTRODUCTION TO DRAWINGS

An example of the invention will now be described by referring to the accompanying drawings.

Figure 1 shows the non-sewage domestic waste water plumbing system emptying directly into the "mains" drainage system where it mixes with sewage waste.

Figure 2 shows the same non-sewage waste water being diverted through a filter and into a storage tank. This is fitted with an electric pump which, when switched on, will distribute the water. An overflow pipe connects the storage tank to the "mains" drainage system.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

Figure 1 shows domestic non-sewage waste water from various sources (baths, showers, wash hand basins, sinks, washing machines, dish washers) being collected through waste pipes 1 into a central gully 2. A common waste pipe 3 then channels the waste water to the "mains" drainage system 4.

Figure 2 shows the same waste water being collected through the waste pipes 1 into a central gully 2. The common waste pipe 3 is interrupted by a shuntS. This shunt diverts the waste water through a mesh filter 6. The waste water then empties through an inlet pipe 7 into a storage tank 12. The storage tank is fitted with an electric pump 9. A switch operates the pump. When the pump is turned on the water is pumped out of the storage tank through the pipe 11. This outflow pipe can be connected to a hosepipe, which can distribute the water to wherever it is required (garden hose, sprinkler, patio, front of house etc.). The storage tank is fitted with an overflow pipeS which channels any excess water into the "mains" drainage system through a drainpipe 4.
