Abstract
A skate shoe comprises two or more wheels fitted horizontally under the heel and a ground engaging toe piece. The ground engaging toe piece provides means to stand, walk or run before jumping sideways into the rolling position.
Description

Side skater This invention relates to a skate, in particular a skate in
which at least two freely rotatable wheels are positioned horizontally under the heel part of said skate, and simultaneously make contact with the ground. Allowing the skate to roll sideways and tilt forward onto a flexible toe protector piece, positioning the said skate into a sprint position providing means for greater acceleration and allowing the user to sprint start and by jumping into the sideways position to roll, and turn by moving there bodyweight and positioning there feet to the required angle.

The object of the present invention is to provide a skate (as described above) which provides means for the skater to stand, walk, jog, run and sprint to get acceleration before jumping sideways into the rolling position. This is possible due to the positioning of at least two wheels under the heel part of said skate, and a flexible toe piece which can pivot with the movement of said skaters feet when switching between the sprint and rolling position.

Figures 1 2 and 3 show by way of example the front perspectives of three schematically indicated configurations of wheels which form part of a frame for a side skate According to the invention each connected group of at least two wheels are fitted under the heel part of said skate.

Wheels I and 2 according to figure 1 are fixed under the heel part of said skate and protrude out slightly from side of said skate.

Figure 2 shows a configuration where by two wheels 2 and 3 are situated horizontally across the heel part of said skate by suspension means such as pivoting arms 4 and 5 that hold said wheels 2 and 3 to said skate frame. Suspension could be provided by means such as springs 6 and 7 or rubber dampers (not drawn) although any suitable means of suspension could be used.

Figure 3 shows an alternative embodiment configuration in which the two wheels 2 and 3 are again positioned horizontally across heel part of skate 1 but protrude out far enough that said shoe can sit in-between said wheels 2 and 3 giving a lower ground clearance. But this configuration can lead to problems such as both inside wheels making contact when running or skating and becoming unstable.

Figure 4 shows an example of the invention according to the configuration of figure 1 which consists of a moulded fibre reinforced plastic body I in which a shoe 2 can be inserted and tightened by means such as strap 3 or lace (not drawn) to hold said skate firmly in position. A flexible toe piece with appropriate ground engaging grip 5 which can position said skate in a sprint position. And housing according to figure 1 to hold wheels 6 and 7 in position horizontally under heel part of said skate.

Figure 5 shows by way of example a rear perspective view of side skate 1 according to figure 1 and 4 in which the two ground engaging wheels 2 and 3 are fitted in such a way that when the flexible toe piece 4 becomes ground engaging the said wheels 2 and 3 lift the heel part of said skate I and shoe 5 into the sprint position.

Figure 6 shows a birds eye view of configuration 1, 4 and which shows wheels 2 and 3 attached by means such as Hex headed fixing bolts 4 and 5 to a fibre reinforced plastic housing 1 which also holds said shoe which in turn is attached to a pivoting toe piece 6 by weans of pivot point or flexible join 7. it
