Abstract
A power cable guide 1 includes a shaped clip 4 for securing the cable of a power tool whilst the tool is in use. The guide also includes attachments 2 and 3 for fixing the guide to the belt of the operator. The device thus secures the cable, preventing it from being cut or damaged by the power tool in use. The cable may be released from the clip when required.
Description

Power Cable Guide This invention relates to a device for holding and
guiding a power cable supplying power to an electric hedge-trimmer or other electric powered tools where the operator engages both hands to operate the tool in use.

When electric hedge-trimmers are being used, the power cable trails behind and is pulled along by movement of the hedge-trimmer. The operator's hands are fully occupied operating the hedge -trimmer and there is danger that the trailing cable will become entangled with the hedge or, more dangerously, be severed causing power failure. To overcome these problems and to introduce a further measure of safety into the operation of hedge trimming, this invention proposes a power cable guide with attachment means for attaching the guide to the operator's waist belt.

The power cable guide will firmly hold the cable to the hip of the operator allowing the operator to concentrate on using both hands to operate the hedge-trimmer. The operator can easily free the cable from the cable guide, when necessary.

The power cable guide can be held in place by threading a waist belt through the two incisions present in the cable guide carrier which can be placed on the right-hand hip for hedge trimming to the left or on the left-hand hip for trimming to the operator's right. Before operations begin, sufficient cable is measured from the guide to the hedge-trimmer to allow the operator to move up and down with the hedge-trimmer on a facing hedge and to sweep 180 degrees from left to right,at arms length,on a hedge top. Before hedge trimming begins, the cable is pushed into the cable clip which is secured to the power cable guide.

The electric supply cable connected to the hedge-trimmer is then guided by the operator's body movement, keeping the power cable out of danger.

The invention will now be described solely by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1. Shows power cable guide, front.

Figure 2. Show's power cable guide, rear view.

Figure 3. Shows power cable guide, exploded view of guide carrier, guide and screws.

Figure 4. Shows power cable guide, side view ( opposite side same).

Figure 5. Shows power cable guide, top view.

Figure 6. Shows power cable guide, bottom view.

Figure 1 shows a power cable guide carrier I includes entry 2 and exit 3 holes to accommodate a waist belt. At the lower end of the power cable guide carrier I the cable guide 4 is secured to the carrier by means of two screws 5,6 secured to back plate 7.

Figure 2 shows reverse view of power cable guide carrier 1 with entry 2 and exit 3 incision in place. At the lower end of the power cable guide carrier 1 with threaded 8, 9 back securing plate 7.

Figure 3 shows exploded view of power cable guide carrier 1,belt entrance 2 exit 3 and threaded entries 8,9 for guide 4, detached, screws 5,6 and entries for screws 10,11 and channel 12 to accommodate hedge-trimmer power cable.

Figure 4 shows side view of power cable guide carrier 1( other side the same) cable guide 4 back securing plate 7 screws 5,6 and channel 12.

Figure 5 shows top view of power cable guide.

Figure 6 shows bottom view of power cable guide.

In figure 1 a power cable guide mounted on a carrier I includes entrance 2 and exit 3 cut into the carrier I to allow a waist belt to be threaded through the carrier 1 on which a guide 4 is secured 5,6 to a theaded plate 7. The guide 4 is tensioned so that the power cable attached to the hedge-trimmer can be firmly be held.

In figure 2 a power cable guide shows the back of the carrier I and the entrance 2 and exit 3 cut into the carrier 1 to allow access to a waist belt for carrying the power cable guide 4 to be carried on the hip at a position suited to the person operating the hedge-trimmer. The guide 4 is secured to the carrier I by a back plate 7 threaded 8, 9.

In figure 3 is shown an exploded view of the power cable guide with carrier 1 and guide 4 with screws 5, 6 where the guide 4 is secured to the carrier I so that the power cable attached to the hedge-trimmer can be pushed into the guide 4 and be held there until released.

Figure 4 shows the side view of the power cable guide assembled with guide 4 secured to the carrier I position of the guide 4 showing power cable entry 13 and where the power cable attached to the hedge-trimmer rests in the guide 4 when the device is in use.

Figure 5 shows the power cable guide with guide 4 view from above.

Figure 6 shows the power cable guide with guide 4 as viewed from below.
