Ferrules or tips. - A device for holding tips, ferrules and the like upon billiard cues, walking sticks, umbrellas, sunshades, and the like whilst being secured thereto comprises a series of tension springs adapted to be applied to the tip, preferably symmetrically, and combined with a member for applying tension to the strings. As shown, the device comprises an iron ring 6 to which the ends of two tension strings 3, 4 are secured. The strings are connected at their point of intersection 5. A securing-string 7 with a button 8 is also attached to the ring. A strip 9 secured at the intersection 5 facilitates the adjustment of the device upon the cue 1. A grooved cap placed upon the tip 2 may be used to guide the tension strings 3, 4 at the point of intersection 5. The strings are tightened uniformly upon the cue tip by pulling down the ring, after which the string 7 is wrapped round the tension strings and is secured by the button 8 so as to maintain the pressure on the tip during the setting of the adhesive. When the device is not in use, the strings are wound round the ring and secured, recesses 10 and notches 11 being provided for this purpose. Instead of a ring 6, a small plate or other holding device may be secured to each tension string.
