Abstract

Description

<p>Title: A Barbecue Descrirtion of Invention The present invention

relates to a barbecue apparatus, usually, and herein, referred to as a barbecue.</p>

<p>Barbecues are very well known, and generally.comprise a base in which charcoal or other fuel may be burnt, and a grill on which food may be cooked over the burning fuel. A lid or cover may also be provided.</p>

<p>According to the present invention, there is provided a barbecue comprising a housing having a base and a cover member which is moveable between open and closed positions relative to the base, and a receptacle which is removably engageable with part of the housing.</p>

<p>The receptacle may be used for holding drinks, snacks and the like when disengaged from the housing. This is particularly useful if the barbecue has to be transported to the barbecuing location, as the receptacle can easily be carried with the barbecue, and disengaged on arrival.</p>

<p>** Referring first to Figures 1 and 2, a barbecue is shown generally at 10, in a closed condition. The barbecue 10 comprises a housing, shown generally at 11, having a base 12 in which charcoal or other fuel may be burnt.</p>

<p>Alternatively, gas burners may be provided in the base 12.</p>

<p>Hingedly attached to the base 12 is a generally dome-shaped cover member 14, which is moveable between a closed position, as shown in Figure 1, and an open position, as shown in Figure 2. The base 12 and cover member 14 are of a metal such as steel.</p>

<p>The barbecue 10 comprises a receptacle 16 which may be placed in overlying engagement with the cover member 14, as shown in Figure 1. The shape of the receptacle 16 corresponds generally to that of the cover member 14 (as will be clear from Figure 2), to facilitate its engagement with the cover member 14. The receptacle may be of a metal such as steel or aluminium, or may be made of a plastics material.</p>

<p>Clips 18 are provided on the base 12, to hold the cover member 16 in the closed position. When the receptacle 16 is engaged with the cover member 14, and the cover member 14 closed, the clips 18 may also hold the receptacle in place. Additionally or alternatively, further clips (not shown) may be provided for that purpose.</p>

<p>The cover member is provided with a handle 20, to facilitate carrying of the barbecue 10. The handle extends upwardly of the cover member 14 in its closed position, and a slot 22 is provided in a ground-engaging part 24 of the * S..</p>

<p>Disposed above the base 12 is a lower grill 28, on which food to be cooked may be placed. An upper grill 30 is also provided, and is attached, at one part thereof, to the cover member, with legs 32 being pivotally attached to the base and to another part of the upper grill 30, such that when the cover member 14 is moved to its open position, the upper grill 30 swings into the position shown in Figure 2, which assists in holding the cover member 14 in the open position.</p>

<p>When the cover member 14 is moved to its closed position, the upper grill 30 swings into a position in which it is contained within the cover member 14.</p>

<p>Referring now to Figure 3, an alternative embodiment of a barbecue is shown generally at 40, in a closed condition. This barbecue is of a generally similar configuration to the embodiment shown in Figures 1 and 2, and comprises a housing, shown generally at 41 having a base 42 to which a generally dome-shaped cover member 44 is hingedly attached. A receptacle 46, of generally similar shape to the cover member 44 is engageable with the cover member 44, when in its closed condition. Clips 48 are provided on the base 42 to hold the cover member 44 in its closed condition, and may also hold the receptacle 46 in engagement with the cover member 44.</p>

<p>In this embodiment, the receptacle 46 is provided with a combined ground engaging rim and handle 50, in the form of two generally arcuate members 52 attached to the receptacle by supports 54. The combined rim/handle 50 * affords the receptacle 46 stability when placed on the ground, whilst offering a convenient carrying handle when engaged with the cover member 44. 1. <p>Claims 1. A barbecue comprising a housing having a base and a cover

   member which is moveable between open and closed positions relative to the base, and a receptacle which is removably engageable with part of the housing.</p>
