Abstract

Picture fixing brackets comprising a substantially planar plate 7 with at least one hole for attachment to the frame by a screw 6 and at least one hole for the attachment of hanging cord 4. A second hole for the attachment of the cord gives added security whilst also helping to keep the picture close to the wall with a minimal degree of tilt. The brackets may be made from plastic material or brass or aluminium.

Description

* 2434311 Picture fixing brackets.

This idea or invention is a simple method of attaching pictures to walls.

This method allows for picture frames to be fitted flush to walls without the usual lean from existing methods made of metal. Being made of metal and because wood screws have sharp edges also means they can damage picture frames, particularly when storing or transporting several pictures.

Statement of invention.

To prevent less picture lean, without having to screw pictures direct to walls, 2 plastic mouldings creating a fixing bracket, holding the picture cord or picture wire close too the back of the picture, stops the tendency for the picture to swing away from the wall but rather cling to the wall. A knot is held within the first hole but a second hole also adds added security whilst also helping to keep the picture secure to the wall.

Whilst the wood screw is housed within the bracket.

Advantages.

The component could be made from something like brass or aluminium, however a material such as plastic moulding would have an advantage since it is a soft, strong material so less likely to scratch or damage wood, glass or canvas, materials associated with pictures. The brackets keep pictures close to the wall creating a tidier appearance and better presentation of the picture. Whilst the woodscrews are kept within the bracket, thus no sharp edges, since a plastic part. By creating two holes causes a strap type method to the back of picture frames. The cord can be doubled as shown in figure 4 but tying the two ends with a sheet bend knot or suitable knot.

Introduction to drawings.

The invention will be described by referring to the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 shows a method used on most pictures today.

Figure 2 shows the method described in this script where the cord is contained close to the back and with no abrupt protrusions and where a conventional hook is used.

Figure 3 shows a section where screw, and knot is contained and the cord threaded through the second hole. The second hole is smaller than the first hole.

Figure 4 shows a larger type fixing with an option of a double cord with the ends tied by a third knot perhaps a sheet bend knot.

Figure 5 shows a smaller type fixing.

Figure 6 shows a variation of Fig 3. More options could be obtained for better seating for the cord.

Detailed description.

A plastic fixing bracket (or suitable material) 7 either small or large depending on size And weight of the picture, generally under 3 kg picture a small bracket ( see figure 5).

For pictures over 3 kg to 10 kg a larger bracket should be used ( see figure 4).

Sizes can vary in design for larger pictures, by using different wood screws and by doubling the cord as shown in figure 4. Though pictures above 10 kg would need more substantial fixing. On all accounts the right picture cord and hook should be correctly used.

Fix bracket 7 in position on the frame I,on both ends but before screwing the bracket fully attach the picture cord by tying a thumb knot at one end. (picture wire can be used but generally fixed in the conventional way.) The picture cord should be threaded through the bracket as shown in Figure 3, check that the knot doesn't pass through the hole by applying hand tension to the cord.(If the knot doesn't hold a second knot can be made.). The cord is then passed through the second hole (there are different ways in which the cord can be attached to the bracket but this is the preferred way). The same is then repeated at the other end, only the length of knot and the strength of the knots within the brackets checked, by stretching the cord between the hands. The cord shouldn't be to tight nor to slack for best results.

When fully fitted to the frame it should look like figures 4 or 5. The second hole improves the design and gives added security, when the picture is attached to the wall.

As stated always check screws, knots, hooks are secure and the right picture cord used before and after attaching picture to wall.

Claims (1)

 1.
Claims.

1. To support picture frames to walls with a minimal amount of tilt from the wall (pictures, generally not exceeding 10 kg),by means of 2 plastic fixing brackets, and picture cord or picture wire, whilst protecting frames from sharp edges, arising from screw heads.

2. As claim I but made from a brass or aluminium version or suitable, all sharp edges being removed.

3. As claim 1, brackets can be fitted to frames made from wood, metal or composite materials, (such as plastic) providing the right screws are used and the brackets held securely to the frame.

Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows Claims. GB 0611259.3 1. A flat bracket, using at least 1 fixing hole, (this could be to suit the nail or the screw or a combination of the two), also within this bracket are two holes which provide clearance for cord or wire to pass through, when a bracket is attached to both ends of a cord using a strap type method secured with a knot, this provides support for banging pictures to walls.

2. As claim 1 but where the cord holes can have a recess added between the two holes And a counter bore or recess added to allow for a knot.

3. As per the preceding claims in which the brackets can be made from any suitable material e.g. plastics, steels, brass, aluminium. etc. 4. As claim 1 brackets can be fitted to frames made of wood, metal or composite material,( such as plastics) providing the right fixings are used. * ** a * S S... S...
