A tap (4) including operating means (8) for user control of the flow of the fluid from the spout, where at least part of the operating means is positioned in or adjacent the flow of fluid (9) from the tap at least when in the open condition, to enable the operating means to be cleaned by the fluid (9) passing through the tap.
