Abstract

A weed removing tool 1 with a curved blade with serrated edges 3 and 4. A pointed end 6 allows for easy insertion into the ground. The blade may have a serrated inset 5 which engages with the weed to help ease it out of the ground. A handle is attached at position E. The handle may be fitted with a stirrup hole allowing the tool to be pushed into the ground using the foot. In use the tool is inserted into the ground in the near vicinity of the weed plant, and with a twist of the tool the serrated edges sever any roots thus loosening the weed in the soil. The plant is removed from the ground with an accompanying core of soil. Any hole left by the removal of the weed may be backfilled with soil or compost.

<p>Background</p>

<p>This invention relates to a non-chemical way of getting rid of weeds from the garden.</p>

<p>While there are many weed killers on the market, which kill weeds in site, there is always a weed or two that will pop up during the summer.</p>

<p>Example</p>

<p>This tool is very effective in getting rid of the odd weed or two from lawns and gardens with relative ease without adversely affecting the lawn or garden. The tool is light enough to be easilM-earried around.</p>

<p>Statement of Invention</p>

<p>To overcome weeds, this tool will remove the weed and leave a neat hole in its place, which can then be replaced with a mixture of compost and sand appropriately either for a lawn or just compost if it is in the borders of a garden.</p>

<p>Advantages A weed in any area of the garden is a problem. If a weed is removed immediately when seen, it avoids the prospect of further propagation and an increase in the number of weeds over the medium and longer term.</p>

<p>Using this tool weeds are quickly and easily removed. The tool will obviate the same weed from growing again as the weed will have been removed completely. The hole left can be filled with either sand and lawn feed or compost mixture (this depends on the type of soil).</p>

<p>If it is a lawn, in time the grass will grow over it. If it is part of a garden border there will be no more weed.</p>

<p>The variety of mixture to fill the hole will depend on the type of soil and the area of the garden.</p>

<p>-Figure 1 shows tool is used in a downward motion by either hand or foot to enter the ground near the weed.</p>

<p>-Figure 2 shows that once the tool has entered the soil where the weed is, a slight twist of the hand to the right and then to the left will loosen the weed and enable it to be easily removed.</p>

<p>Detailed description</p>

<p>"Weedsaway!" is a small hand tool. Its blade is made of any suitable hard, durable material that will enter the soil with ease.</p>

<p>Figure.1 shows that the tool has two smooth surfaces I & 2 interspersed by two serrated edges 3 & 4 with a small-serrated inset 5. It has a point 6,7 and from A & B,C&D the blade curves inwards that allows the tool to enter the soil easily and with little damage to the grass. The tool is pushed around the weed to loosen it and then pulled out by hand. Small weeds can be removed easily but bigger ones will need the above method repeated to loosen the weed.</p>

<p>Figure.2 shows alternative handles, a hand -handle 8.</p>

<p>Figure.3 shows a extension handle 9 with stirrup 9a that can be lengthened so that the tool could conveniently be used by people who cannot bend or squat, and could operate the tool by placing the foot into stirrup hole 10.</p>

1. <p>Claims I. The "Weedsaway" tool removes weeds easily without destroying

   the lawn, for when the blade that is curved inwards, and has a pointed edge is inserted around the weed; it will loosen the earth surrounding the weed to remove the weed and its root.</p>

   <p>2. Weedsaway tool according to claim 1, has a small protruding blade that will secure the weed to be removed.</p>

   <p>3. The Weedsaway tool according to claim 1, has a handle that is easily gripped by hand to twist the weed away from the earth.</p>

   <p>4. The Weedsaway tool according to claim 1, will have as an accessory, a round stirrup hole at the end of a durable, hard pole where a foot can easily enter to give leverage for inserting the tool into the soil, when hard earth conditions is encountered, or when the user has difficulty bending.</p>

   <p>5. The Weedsaway tool according to claim 1, will remove the weed leaving a neat hole which can be covered with compost or compost and soil mixture, where grass will eventually cover the hole.</p>

   <p>6. The Weedsaway tool according to claim 1, will leave a neat hole, which can be filled by sand and compost mixture for a lawn or compost for a garden, the filling mixture for a garden will depend on the type of soil and what it needs.</p>
