Abstract
The proximity warning system detects objects in the path of a vehicle as the vehicle manoeuvres. The system has sensors placed around the vehicle which transmit radio signals to a receiver in a display unit. The display unit generates a visual and/or an audible indication of the distance of the detected object to the vehicle. The audio warning may be in the form of a buzzer or beeps that get faster as the object gets closer and become a continuous tone at a predetermined distance. The visual warning may be in the form of series of lights or LEDs such that the number lit increases as the object approaches the vehicle and all the lights are lit at a predetermined distance. The display unit may be a portable handheld unit with it own battery power supply. The display unit may also be able to be connected via a cable if the batteries fail. The sensors and transmitters may be permanently or temporarily mounted on the vehicle. The vehicle may be a trailer or caravan.
Description

ELECTRIC MAN OEUVRINC AID

WITH RADIO FREQUENCY TRANSMITTER AND RECEIVER

Vehicle Manoeuvring a large wheeled object (vehicle) is difficult, a simple error can in the case of a caravan break rear lights, damage the large wheeled object, damage other property or cause harm to a person or animal.

The Electric Manoeuvring Aid' allows one person to monitor all sides of the large wheeled object when it is being moved to another location.

You will be able to switch on the Electric Manoeuvring Aid' by either using the portable RF (Radio Frequency) handset or an isolator switch fitted in-line with the battery powering the transmitter on the vehicle. Once switched on the handset will display objects within a 1 metre range of the exterior edge of the vehicle. The RF transmitter will activate sensors mounted on the protected sides, which will then detect any objects. Once detected, the transmitter will transmit a signal to the receiver which is located in a portable RF handset (similar shape to a TV remote control). The user is warned by an intermittent beep' from a small electronic sounder mounted inside the receiver, with a secondary visual warning using LED's (Light Emitting Diode's) also mounted within the receiver. The closer the object gets, the number of LED's illuminated and the speed of the beep' gets faster. When the beep' becomes a continuous tone and all the LED's are illuminated, one of the protected sides of the vehicle is not more than 40cm away from the object that has been detected. If the battery should fail in the hand-set a cable is provided to link the transmitter to the receiver.

Security The Electric Manoeuvring Aid' can also be used as a security device, place the sensors on the property you wish to protect and monitor the object from a safe distance. For example: the user may want to protect the garden shed or garage and monitor its security from the lounge or bedroom.

Installation The Electric Manoeuvring Aid' may either be fitted as a permanent or temporary installation. In both cases the Electric Manoeuvring Aid' only has 2 wires to connect and can be easily installed without drilling any holes or running cables to other components of the system. The transmitter is centrally located between all the sensors and is provided with mounting accessories. The sensors are plugged into the sockets on the transmitter, with the transmitter being connected to a battery, red wire to + and black wire to -. If an isolator switch is used this needs to be located between the red wire and the + terminal of the battery. The system can now be tested from the handset and then used. 2.

Claims (1)
-
Temporary installation.

Consists of the sensors and transmitter being powered by a small 1 2V battery which are mounted on to the vehicle by removable fixings (Velcro, sticky pads).

Permanent installation.

The sensors and transmitter are permanently mounted and wired to 1 2V battery, in the case of a caravan the unit will be wired directly in to the caravan leisure battery, in this case an isolator switch could be used to separate the caravan electrics from the unit.

The Electric Manoeuvring Aid' is supplied with step by step installation instructions and all the parts required to install the system for a permanent installation, a number of removable fixings will also be supplied. It should take the average DIY person approximately 1 hour to install.

The benefits of the Electric Manoeuvring Aid': * Easy 2 wire installation (if an isolator switch is used the installation may be a bit more complex).

* Transferable if the portable installation is selected.

* No wires from the transmitter to the receiver, allowing the user to walk around the vehicle when it is being moved.

* The transmitter will allow numerous sensors to be fitted depending on the application.

* If the battery in the hand-held units fails a cable is supplied to connect the receiver directly to the transmitter.

* Can be used as a security device.

The benefits of the Electric Manoeuvring Aid' can be used by: * Caravan owners, especially if they have a caravan movers fitted.

* Factories where moving large obstacles can prevent a hazard.
