Abstract

A board game comprises a board with removable panels concealing all or part of the board and the instructions for play. During the game, panels may be scratched off to reveal an instruction. Once played the board may be disposed off. Dice or another number generator may be concealed by the panels, or may be pressed out of the board together with the playing pieces. The game may be for more than one player.

Description

BOARD GAMES
This invention relates to board games that have panels which when the surface is scratched off reveal the next move or play instruction, unlike the more traditional methods of play where you throw a dice or read instructions from cards. (See diagram I) which shows part of a playing board with (a) covered panels and (b) uncovered panels.
Once the panels have been scratched off the game is no longer playable and can be disposed of, thus making this a consumable product.
Disposable games allow people to play board games together in the traditional way whilst bringing the board game right up to date with modem methods.
Games using scratch off panels to guide the course/outcome of the game are designed to suit all age groups and cover an assortment of different game ideas. The games are disposable and many people will make repeat purchases, so game structures, formats and outcomes will have to be altered batch to batch in order to avoid familiarity.
Games using forfeits or chances will also incorporate these in the form of scratch off panels. See diagram 2 (a & b) apply. These panels will increase or decrease in number according to individual game requirements.
Some games will also be played by using disposable dice, also designed using the scratch off method. They will be designed as Grids with concealed numbers that will be printed in different positions batch to batch to avoid familiarity to numbering sequences. The grids will also come in various sizes according to the game requirements, meaning bolder grids with less scratch off panels for games more suitable for younger players. See diagram 3, and dice with smaller grids and a greater quantity of scratch off panels for older players or more complex games. See diagram 4. Dice will also be made with fewer or greater quantities of scratch off panels than shown in diagrams 3 and 4. The diagrams show the dice after the substance covering the panels has been scratched off.
Where points are gained and tracked throughout a game this will also be done using the scratch off panel method. (See diagram 5), which shows uncovered panels. These panels will increase in number to accommodate individual game requirements.
All games will be brightly printed on board which can be folded and secured closed or sealed in a cellophane wrap, thus disposing of the need to come boxed up. Each game will have a title, suggested age group, target audience and full playing instructions printed on it. In the cases where props are needed, these items will be listed and made fully visible through any packaging. in most cases props will be general every day items that are readily to hand and will require no additional expense. (2)
Disposable scratch off board games will come in various shapes and sizes and any counters or game pieces required will be supplied with the game as pre- cut, push out parts.
Disposable, scratch off board games are designed to be played in many different circumstances from families in their homes, groups of people in their place of work and party gatherings. The games are designed to accommodate different amounts of players which can be any thing from a single person to a larger number of people. The games are designed as board games not scratch cards and therefore will not have an immediate winning opportunity attached. Prize winning opportunities can be supplied by the players themselves and some games are designed to accommodate this facility if required.
The main advantage of these games is that they are designed to be short bursts of fun, they will be inexpensive and the fact that they are disposable means no long term storage space is required. They will be perfect for taking on holidays, to give as gifts or play at parties. They will have a modem slant to them as the designs will cover games such as charades, forfeits, sweepstakes, quizzes etc. as well as more traditional themes. (3)
