Abstract

Rotary distributors; boxes and cases.- Rotary ignition distributors which are provided with collectors having radial arms through which leads pass to terminal boards at some distance from the distributors have the collectors and radial arms made of metal, the segments of the collectors being suitably insulated. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the collector comprises a ring 1 of cast aluminium, sheet metal, &c. which is formed integral with a shallow box-like arm 2 formed at its outer end (13) to receive a terminal board 19. Wires 9 pass from the terminals 17 to segments 9 mounted on but insulated from the ring 1. The channel in the arm 2 is provided with a detachable cover plate 11. The ring 1 and arm 2 are provided with lugs 3, 4 so that the collector can be clamped upon the engine casing in such a position that brushes 23 on the distributor terminals 22 bear upon the segments 6, which are large enough to maintain contact throughout the full range of the distributor timing adjustment. A box cover for the terminal board may be provided enclosing the end of the metal tube containing the incoming leads, so that no portion of the leads is exposed.
