Abstract

A personal defence aid comprises a concave stainless steel disc with a fabric handle that is inserted into the crown of policemen's cap to enable the hat to be held as a shield in the event of a knife attack. Preferably the steel disc is covered on the inside on the concave disc with a fabric backed vinyl with a strip of nylon and has a strip of nylon webbing stretched across the concaved side of the steel disc to form a handle. The steel disc may have notches in the side of the disc to prevent sideways movement of the handle. The disc may be inserted into the hat via an insertion tool that is intended to be used in a similar manner to a shoe horn.

Description

CAT' WITH INSERT FOR USE AS A DEFENSE SHIELD This invention relates to a
personal defensive aid for the ue of police, or similar security personnel.
I have become acquainted with a police officer who instructs police in the art of selfdefen survival and how to deal with violent situations in the course of their duties.
One of the most difficult SitUatjol8 to deal iith is to be faced .ith someone threatening with or wealding a knife.
A protective device must be immediately to hand to parry or stop a iife thrust or attack, enahljnc the officer to diearr, the asailar vriUhcut injury to himself, ft is for this reason that I have invented a ahield which can b inserted into police cap and the cap can then be used as a shield against such a knife attack.
THE HALO DEFENSE INSERT SHIELD (D.I.s.) An assembly comprising of a concaved circular disk of stainless steel.
The Halo has passed a test conductecj at the Royal Military Col1e of Science, Onanfield University, ensuing that the Halo came up to tLe requjrme5 of the PSDB Stab Resistance for Body Armour.
The tests show that the steel disk will meet the required'e5 standai of ife penetration at an energy of 24 joules and up to 20 m., of penetration at an energy of 30 joules.
The steel disk is Covered on the inside of the concave with vinyl_backed fabric. This is secured with adhesive.
A length of black plastic webbing is stretched aCrOSS the fcc of open concayed side of the disk.
The ends of the webbing are turned over and secured to the revers side of the steel disk with impact adhesive.
The opposite ends of the disk are notched out to accommodate. the nylon webbing.
This nylon webbing then forms a hand-grip. 2'
THE HALO DEFENSE INSERT SHIELD (D.I.s) A specific embodiment will now be described by way ol' example W]th referorce Go the S000TJpunying Qr5\11i'S which:- Fig.1 Shows a circle of Concave stainless steel.
This is notched at opposite sides o cecept the black plastic webbing.
Fig.2 Shows a circular piece of fab:cic-bscked vinyl cut to the came size as the steel disk. This is secured to the steel disk with impact adhesive.
Fig 3 Shows a strip of black nylon webbing stretched across the concaved. side of the steel dik. Notches in the side of the disk prevent sideways movement of the webbing.
The ends of the webbing are turned over and secured on to the reverse side with impact adhesive.
Fig 4 Shows the cap being used as the shield.
Fig.5 Show the disk being inserted into the cap with the aid of an insertion tool.
Fig.6 Shows the insertion tool.
THE HALO DEFENSE INSERT SHIEI (D.I.S.) A personal defense aid used by police or similar security persoll'tlel.
This is an assembly whereby a concaved stainless steel disk is covered on the inside of the concave by a circular piece of fpbric-backed vinyl.
The fabric disc is secured to the steel disk by impact adhesive.
The length of black nylon viebbing is stretched across the concave side of the steel disk.
Fotches ilL the side ci' the disc prevent sidev;nys movement of the webbing.
The ends of the iebbing are turned over and secured on the rcverse side tO the metal disk with impact adhesive
