Abstract

An electric toothbrush with a replaceable toothpaste cartridge D in which toothpaste may be conveyed from the reservoir through a capillary tube C to the brush head A. The cartridge may have a protective seal which is punctured by the capillary tube C as it is inserted into the toothbrush handle through a trapdoor E. The toothbrush may have a replaceable head.

Disposable Toothpaste Cartridge For Electric Toothbrushes Or Invention 54.
Description of Invention:
The conventional way to hold and contain toothpaste is in separate tubes. The toothpaste cartridge would mean that toothpaste could be stored within the main body of the toothbrush. The toothpaste capsule may have to contain toothpaste that is more liquid than usual toothpastes, so that it does not congest the capillary tube connecting the cartridge to the toothbrush head. There are many ways by which the release of the toothpaste could be controlled, but the easiest would probably be to have a squeezable cartridge, so that by exerting pressure on the exterior of the cartridge, toothpaste is displaced out of the cartridge, up the capillary tube and out of the toothbrush head. Or there could be a way by which, toothpaste (and maybe Listerine or another oral hygiene product) could be released thorough-out brushing, using the cohesive attraction between the toothpaste and the capillary tube to draw the toothpaste up, similar to the way a plant draws water and sucrose up the phloem and xylem vessels in its transportation network. The capsule could be attached to the electric toothbrush by a variety of methods. The most simple would probably be to insert the capsule into the main body of the toothbrush, similar to the way batteries would be inserted into it.
Description of Drawings:
1. Point "A" shows the pore' in the toothbrushes head, where the toothpaste 2. Point "B" shows how a disposable toothbrush head with the capillary tube in it would fit onto the main body of the electric toothbrush.
3. Point "C" shows the strengthened \ thickened part of the capillary tube that would break the protective seal on the top of the toothpaste capsule (similar to the way that a fountain pen breaks the seal on an ink cartridge) so that toothpaste is free to move up the capillary tube.
4. Point "D" shows the capsule itself and where pressure could be applied to displace toothpaste up the capillary tube.
5. *Point'E" shows a basic method by which the capsule could be held in the main part of the topthbush: a "trapdoor" that can be opened to allow a capsule to be plaëed in, and hen closed to hold the capsule in place.

Claims (7)

  1. Claims: 1. To have a toothbrush capsule, that can be attached onto the
    body of an electric toothbrush.
  2. 2. The toothpaste can be transported from the capsule to the toothbrush head by means of a capillary tube.
  3. 3. In the toothbrush head, there would be an opening(s) that would allow the toothpaste out among the bristles of the toothbrush head.
  4. 4. Toothpaste would be ejected out of the capsule either using manual displacement or some other machine controlled mechanism.
  5. 5. The toothbrush head would also be disposable and would so have a way of securely attaching its capillary tube to the capillary tube of the toothbrush.
  6. 6. The toothpaste mixture may have to be more liquid so as not to block up the capillary tube.
  7. 7. The toothpaste capsule will be held in place either using a "trapdoor" or some other method.
