Abstract
The system has been designed to create and read electoral voting cards, enabling automatic printing of cards and automated reading of voter's selection on the card through an optical reader. The idea is to speed up considerably the process of counting electoral votes, to improve security through bar-coding and improve quality of counting. The system and hardware is fully transportable to locations and does not require a fixed workstation.
Description
AUTO VOTE
HcctrQn içVotmgCaJYSfl !cciti2fl TI Vo1ing Card (see l'xhihit I) Ihe card is made oi normaf cardboard. I he system can gcncrute otCr s names, candidate names, date and place of election. authority S name, details o the election from its database on to the card. All this variable date can he changed through the software and any additional data required can also he generated.
The card is marked by the voter placing a line through a spot against their chosen candidate. The software is then enabled inconjunCtiOn with the reader and the card is passed through the reader (see Fxhihit 2). If there is an error reading the card, information is displayed on a screen allowing the user to correct or relect. The software reads both the mark made by the voter and the bar code information to yen fy validity.
The Software The software consists of various modules Voter 1)atahase

Reporting and Statistics.
Leaderhoard" displays.
l'he software records voters totals against each candidate and can he displayed concurrently on a leaderhoard'. Counting of votes is estimated to be sped up by some 85o with increased accuracy over current niethods, Fhe software can he used at both local, national and european elections and can feed a central system.
The system can generate further reports and statistics, time of' voting, trends etc and can retain data fur many years.
Claims (5)

2. The computer software allows the voting card to be pre-printed (as in claim 1) with variable data that is user definable; ( See Exhibit 1) security marks can also me made on the card that are only electronically readable.
3. The person making a vote makes a line through a selected area on the card which is then automatically read through a electronic mark reader (see Exhibit 2).
4. The computer software used in claim! and 2 validates the markings on the voting card and counts automatically selection(s) made and produces reports.
5. The computer software as in claim I, 2, 3 displays to a TV/monitor results of votes cast.
