Abstract
An adjustable inflatable backrest incorporated into a traditional pneumatic mattress 4 by means of wedge-shaped compartments 1, which when independently inflated, raise the backrest 2 to a height comfortable for the user. The backrest is connected to the mattress by means of joining section 3.
Description
Adjustable inflatable backrest for an air mattress This invention relates
to an inflatable sunbed/air mattress device for raising the backrest pneumatically.
Traditional inflatable sunbeds have always been popular among beach holiday resorts where bulky non-inflatable sunbeds would be too large to transport. Traditional inflatables have the advantage of being portable, once deflated, can be folded compactly and stored for transportation.
However, in holiday resorts, nonnal sturdy sunbeds available in hotels and apartments are always preferred, and are usually in short supply. This is due to the fact that sturdy sunbeds have an adjustable backrest, where the height can be adjusted so as the user could sit upwards/read a book or the like.
The adjustable inflatable backrest has pneumatic chambers fixed behind the backrest.
These chambers can be independently inflated to raise the angle of the backrest to a comfortable height for the user.
The nature of the adjustable inflatable backrest allows the user freedom to adjust the back-height angle to the comfort of a sturdy sunbed, but with the versatility of a traditional inflatable sunbed, it can be deflated, folded, transported and reused at a later date.
Preferably, the adjustable inflatable backrest has at least one inflatable chamber to raise the backrest to the desirable height. Preferably, the base of the lower chamber in contact with the ground has supports as to eliminate sideways tipping of the sunbed.
An example of the invention will now be described by referring to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows the adjustable inflatable backrest incorporated into a traditional inflatable sunbed with the backrest in its raised position.
Figure 2 shows a rear view of the adjustable inflatable backrest.
Figure 3 shows the adjustable inflatable backrest in its deflated position.
Figure 1 shows a side view of the adjustable inflatable backrest in its raised position.
The backrest 2, is independently inflated to the correct pressure comfortable to the user, and raised by the segments/chambers 1, inflated to a pressure to be at a desirable height for the user. The joining section 3, allows the backrest 2, to be raised without disturbing or causing unnecessary friction to the backrest 2, the chambers 1, and is joined between the backrest 2, and the mattress base 4. The joining section 3, could be independently inflated, inflated by the backrest 2, or mattress base 4. The joining section 3, could also be manufactured to be not pneumatic depending on design. The joining section is designed to separate the backrest 2, and the mattress base 4, and could be considered as part of the backrest or the mattress base.
The mattress base 4, and backrest 2, are inflatable and are constructed of at least one or more inflatable chambers, again on the style of the design. The material used for the invention must be flexible and resilient, such as polyvinyl chloride (PVC) sheeting or other materials known to one of ordinary skill of the art.
Figure 2 shows a rear view of the adjustable inflatable backrest in its raised position.
The backrest 2, is raised to an angle by inflating the chambers 1, by using the inlet/outlet valves 5, usually by foot pump, hand pump or the like. The chambers 1, can be manufactured with at least one chamber or as many as to raise the backrest 2, depending on design. The inlet/outlet valves 5, can be fitted to individual chambers or a single valve could be employed to inflate the chambers through a concertina type effect. The inlet/outlet valves 5, can be situated anywhere on the outside of the chambers 1. The structure of the valve/valves, and the means by which they are connected to the surfaces, are commonly known to one of ordinary skill of the art.
Figure 3 shows the adjustable inflatable backrest in its lowered deflated position With the chambers I, fully deflated it is shown that the backrest 2, lowers to a near ground level, example of the concertina effect of the design. As shown, the backrest 2, mattress base 4, and joining section 3, remain inflated.
Claims (7)
- Claims I. An air mattress comprising of individually inflatable shapedchambers secured together directly underside of an inflated backrest, which is connected to a rectangular inflatable mattress base, where said chambers when inflated, raise the height of the backrest to an angle comfortable to the user.
