Abstract

A football card game comprises a card printed with a time relating to a designated football match. If the time printed on the card matches the time of the last goal scored by the winning side, the player wins a prize. If there is no score a winning card is provided, and in the case of a score draw the time of the first goal is the winning time. The card may have a scratch off layer concealing the time. The game may also be played on line or on a mobile phone.

Description

Description
Interactive football card game This invention relates to a football card game played interactively with a designated football match. The winner of the card game is determined by the events of the designated football match. The format of the card game enables these events to be relayed to the players visually, audibly or digitally.
Football matches attract sponsorship and advertising, which are displayed to the viewers and listeners throughout the game. The interest of the viewers in a football match is of paramount importance to advertisers, sponsors and match hosts. The problem this invention solves relates to creating, enhancing and maintaining interest in a football match. This is beneficial to match hosts, sponsors and advertisers by way of increased viewing figures.
Football matches can become less interesting to the viewer for the following reasons 1) The fixture is not popular and generates little interest.
2) Football matches can become one-sided and the winner of the match becomes obvious well before the end 3) Viewers may only be interested in the result and therefore only watch the closing period, or look for the final score.
Loss of interest in a football match is detrimental to match hosts, sponsors and advertisers. It is therefore desirable to provide an interactive game to combat this.
The main objectives of the card game are as follows.
1. To increase interest and enjoyment of viewed Football matches.
2. To create new interest in matches otherwise overlooked by potential viewers.
3. To maintain interest in the fixture for its full duration, even if the match becomes one-sided and the outcome becomes obvious well before the end of the match Accordingly, The invention generates new interest by introducing a card game played during the fixture in which a gambling element can be incorporated. The card game is easy to follow and therefore doesn't distract attention away from the fixture. The game can be played as that of chance or skill with or without a stake. The rules of the card game are key in achieving the inventions objectives.
Essential Rules of the Game.
The winner of the interactive football card game is the player holding a winning card at the end of a designated football match.
The winning card relates to the official timing of the winning goal of a designated football match The winning goal is defined as follows, depending on the outcome of the match In the event of a victory: The winning goal is defined as the last goal scored by the winning team In the event of a score draw: The winning goal is the first goal scored In the event of a no score draw: A winning card is provided.
By applying these rules the winner of the card game is potentially subject to change throughout the course of the match and is not determined until the end of the match.
The card game may be presented in many formats to maximise player participation.
Three preferred embodiments are outlined below, all with the same key features.
These will be described with reference to the following drawings Figure 1) shows front and back of an individual playing card from a pack Figure 2) shows a revealed and un-revealed Scratch card relating to a specific fixture Figure 3) shows a virtual card on a mobile phone screen relating to a specific fixture 1) Boxed Playing Cards This format of the invention requires a pack of playing cards of differing faces and same back designs (2) as shown in figure 1. The card faces (1) display time intervals (3), which relate to different periods in the. A preferred time interval (3) for a single card is five minutes.
The cards are dealt evenly between players before the start of the designated match.
A player holding a single winning card at the end of the viewed match concludes the card game as described in the rules.
The cards may hold designs, advertising and! or trademarks on, either the face (I), or backs (2), as well as the essential information corresponding to the game. This format of the invention is to be played by a small group of players. (e.g. 2-25) Players can Stake on the outcome to increase interest and enjoyment.
The pack of cards may be constructed of printed laminated card presented in a boxed format. Logos, advertisement and! or trademarks may be included on all packaging.
2) Scratch Cards This format of the invention uses a scratch card to display the essential game information as shown in figure 2.
On the scratch card face (4), the time interval (3) displayed on the card is covered by a removable substance (5). This can be scratched off to reveal the time period (3) underneath.
This enables the game to be played by many players in a one off game relating to a specific fixture (6), which will be indicated on the face (4) of the scratch card.
In this format the invention allows a large-scale game to be played incorporating gambling, with multiple winners. The time periods might be reduced to one-minute intervals to decrease the chance of winning and thus increase the odds relating to gambling. This is purely a game of chance.
3) Digital Cards This format of the invention uses a digital card (8) to relay the essential game information to the participants. These digital cards can be received and displayed on a mobile phone screen (7) as shown in figure 3, or via the Internet or digital interactive television for example In this format the invention allows a large-scale game to be played incorporating gambling with multiple winners. The time periods might be reduced to one-minute intervals to decrease the chance of winning and thus increase the odds relating to gambling.
This format could incorporate an element of skill. For example, by requesting specific time periods based on personal choice and the betting odds, you can hope to influence your chances of winning. /

Figure 2: Displays possible front of Scratch Card relating to a specific fixture.
Figure 3: Shows a possible Digital card displayed on a mobile phone screen (7) relating to a specific fixture. The card on the screen contains the same information as the scratch card in figure 2.
