Abstract

242,706. Hage, R. A. Aug. 12, 1924. Percussive tools. - Comprises link-work mechanism for conveying rotation to a member and simultaneously imparting thereto a bodily displacement so that its centre of gravity traces a closed path, and is applicable to hammer-disc mechanism of the kind described in Specifications 164,752 and 207,272. [both in Class 83 (iv), Metals, Working]. The device may be embodied in an electrically driven percussive rock drill, in which case the lateral reciprocating motion of an intermediate part may be utilized to operate twist mechanism and a pump for removing debris. In this device a hammer disc 34 is driven from a rotary shaft 1 through as intermediate shaft 27 mounted in a bearing plate 28 which is vertically slidable in a guide partition 29. A combined rotary and vertical reciprocatory motion is imparted to the shaft 27 from the shaft 1, and a disc 39 on the shaft 27, acting through pins 35, 36, 37 (Fig. 9) engaging kidney shaped slots 46, 47, 48 in the hammer disc 34, imparts to this member a rotary motion combined with a bodily displacement such that its centre of gravity traces out the kidney-shaped path 32, the hammer being raised slowly and lowered relatively quickly. If desired, the pins 35, 36, 37 may be additionally supported by an idle disc 38 on a shaft 40 mounted in a second vertically slidable bearing plate 41. To impart rotary and lateral reciprocating motion to the shaft 27, the shaft 1 carries a driving plate 2 formed with curved slots 11, 12 in which blocks 9, 10 are adapted to reciprocate, the blocks being linked by bars 7, 8 to a common pivotal stud 5 on the driving plate and being also pivotally connected to eccentric sheaves 15, 16 mounted on fixed eccentric bearing discs 17, 18, adjustably secured to the casing 4. The eccentric constraint causes the blocks to reciprocate in their slots as they rotate with the driving plate 2. This motion is transmitted to the shaft 27 through a pair of bare 22, 23 pivotally connected at 13, 14 to the slide blocks 9, 10 respectively, and slidable in grooves at right angles formed across the face of a disc 26 on the shaft 27.
