Abstract

A cutting blade 1 holding device 13, which is attached to the index finger including a sliding holder 10 for retraction of the blade.

Description

* 1. 2426946 Finger blade This invention relates to a device for cutting
and scribing.
Anyone using a conventional cutting blade will often have to put the tool in a pocket or holster whilst not in use. It may be difficult to retrieve the tool especially if it is in a pocket and the user is up a ladder.
To overcome these problems, the present invention proposes a device that can be attached to the index finger meaning that it is always ready to hand.
The cutting blade may be retracted by a sliding motion and held by a spring, so in its relaxed state, the blade is retracted into the main body thus not exposing the cutting edge. The blade may be extended and temporarily locked in place so preventing additional effort to keep the blade from retracting when exerting exceptional force on the cutting blade. It will be preferable to have a method of quickly changing the blades as and when required.
The invention will now be described solely by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows the finger blade fitted to the finger.
Figure 2 shows the device with the blade extended.
Figure 3 shows the device with the blade in its retracted state.
Figure 4 shows a cross-sectional view of the blade in retracted position.
Figure 5 shows the blade retaining plate.
Figure 6 shows the outer plate with slider button.
Figure 7 shows side view of outer plate with retained slider button. 2.
In figure 2 the blade 1 is in its extended position. The button 2 is pushed forward with the thumb. After the button is pushed forward to its full extension, the button is then pushed upwards in the vertical portion of the slot 3 for temporary locking.
Figure 3 shows the blade in its fully retracted position.
Figure 4 shows a cross-sectional drawing with the inner blade holder 5.
The pin 6 serves as a pillar for the spring 4 as well as a retainer for the Blade 1.
Figure 4 also shows the location pins 7 to hold the intermediate plate 8 in figure 5.
Figure 5 shows the intermediate plate 8 with the slot 9 to allow the button 2 to perform its vertical movement.
Figure 6 shows the top plate 10 with the retained button 2. The top plate 10 fits on top of the intermediate plate 8.
Figure 7 shows a side view of the top plate 10 showing the retained button 2.
The boss 11 protrudes through the slot 9 in the intermediate plate 8 to allow the inner blade holder 5, the blade 1 and the intermediate plate 8 to slide forwards or backwards as one unit inside the main body 13

Claims (5)

  1. Claims 1. A finger blade comprising a blade attached to a device, which in
    turn is attached to the index finger.
  2. 2. A finger blade according to claim 1, in which the index finger of the user is located in the tubular portion of the finger blade body.
  3. 3. A finger blade according to any of the preceding claims in which the blade is retractable and extendible along a slider to expose and cover the cutting blade.
  4. 4. A finger blade according to any of the preceding claims in which the blade can be temporarily locked by means of a vertical slot perpendicular to the horizontal main slot.
  5. 5. A finger blade according to any preceding claim in which the top plate can be removed to facilitate blade renewal/removal.
