Abstract
A digital TV receiver box with an antenna avoids the inconvenience of carrying a conventional digital TV receiver box with an external feeder antenna. The antenna (2) is located on the receiver box (1) and electrically connected to a circuit module (11) inside the receiver box so that digital TV signals received through the antenna may directly be sent to the circuit module and then decoded for display and a connector (3) is connected between the antenna and the receiver box so that the antenna may receive signals from all angles.
Description
A DIGITAL TV RECEIVER BOX PROVIDED WITH AN ANTENNA
This invention relates to a digital TV receiver box (Set lop Box) provided with an antenna, and particularly to a digital TV receiver box using the antenna for providing digital TV programs.
In a conventional home (analogue) TV the frame signals vary continuously and need to be very strong to achieve perfect frame demodulation. In order to solve the defects of the conventional TV, the industry in this field introduced a digital TV product, digital television (Dlv), in which digital TV programs are delivered by satellite, community antenna TV (CATV), or terrestrial or broadband networks, and then demodulated by a terminal unit (such as a set top box) for reception. Because the transmitted signals are digital, higher transmission quality and more program channels may be provided. Furthermore, owing to the characteristics of digital demodulation, excellent frame demodulation may is generally be obtained with digital signals that are weaker than the corresponding analogue frame signals, so that mobile reception may easily be achieved.
Current home TVs are still predominantly analogue, so if they are updated to receive digital TV signals, a digital TV tceiver box must be added to a signal input terminal of a TV set. As shown in Fig. 1, such a digital TV receiver box mainly comprises a receiver box 7, a feeder 8, and an antenna 9. When the receiver box is used, the feeder 8 is connected between the receiver box 7 and the antenna 9 so that digital TV signals may be received through the antenna 9, transmitted to the receiver box 7 through the feeder 8, and finally decoded for digital reception.
However, the digital TV receiver box has several problems that need to be solved in practical use. For example, the receiver box generally works with a notebook computer for a user to watch TV when staying out, but although this equipment is portable, the overall baggage size and resulting burden for the user is significant. All parts of the receiver box are detachable and the antenna cannot be flexible, and frequent use of the feeder 8 and frequent removal and connection for collection and assembly result in poor contact between internal materials of the feeder 8. The transmission quality of digital TV signals is affected.
An object of the present invention is to provide a digital TV receiver box of improved portability and satisfactory reception quality.
The invention is defined in the independent claims.
In one embodiment a digital TV receiver box provided with an antenna, comprising a receiver box inside which a circuit module receiving digital TV signals is provided, and an antenna located on the surface of receiver box has one end of the antenna is electrically connected to the circuit module.
An impedance matching circuit is preferably provided between the antenna and the circuit module, so that the impedance of antenna may match with that of circuit module. The antenna is preferably a whip antenna.
In one embodiment a connector is provided between the antenna and the, receiver box to enable the orientation of the antenna to be adjusted. In preferred embodiments the antenna may be retractable to decrease the space occupied thereby. The apparatus is thus convenient for the user to carry, and the connector enables the angle of antenna to be adjusted to ensure good reception quality.
A preferred embodiment of the invention is described below by way of example only with reference to Figures 1 to 3 of the accompanying drawings, wherein: Fig. I is a schematic view illustrating a conventional digital TV receiver box; Fig. 2 is a schematic view illustrating the appearance of a preferred embodiment of this invention; and Fig. 3 is a schematic block diagram of a preferred embodiment of this invention.
Fig. 2 is a schematic view illustrating the appearance of a digital TV receiver box provided with an antenna according to this invention. In this embodiment, the digital receiver box I is provided with an antenna 2, a transmission interface 12, and an antenna jack 13. The receiver box I and the antenna are not connected with each other through a feeder, for signal transmission. The antenna 2 is preferably located near the receiver box 1. One end of the antenna 2 is electrically connected to a circuit module 11 inside the receiver box 1. The module 11 is used to receive and decode digital T\J signals.
Further, the receiver box 1 is integrated with the antenna jack 13 electrically connected to the circuit module 11 for connecting an external antenna (not shown) with feeder so that a user may use the receiver box I receiving digital TV signals through its antenna 2 or the external antenna with feeder connected to the antenna jack 13.
In consideration of the antenna 2 receiving signals from a specific direction, a connector 3 is provided between the antenna 2 and the receiver box 1, one end of the connector 3 is electrically connected to the circuit module 11, and the connector 3 is preferably rotatable so that the user may rotate the antenna 2 to a desired set angle. Besides, for the signal receiving quality and is collection of the antenna 2, the antenna 2 is preferably extendable and retractable, so that its length may be adjusted to correspond with the bandwidth of digital television broadcast.
Fig. 3 is a schematic block diagram of the digital receiver box of Fig. 2.
The circuit module 11 comprises an impedance matching circuit 111, a switch 112, an RF Tuner 113, a demodulator 114, a transmission interface 12, and antenna jack 13. In the embodiment, the antenna 2 is located on the receiver box 1, so impedance matching must be considered. Due to a certain difficulty in designing the feeder antenna, the impedance matching circuit 111 is especially provided so that the impedance of antenna 2 may match with that of circuit module 11. The switch 112 is provided to send digital TV signals received through the antenna 2 or the external feeder antenna connected to the antenna jack 13 to the RF tuner 113.
The RF tuner 113 receives digital TV signals through the antenna 2 or the external feeder antenna connected to the antenna jack 13. The decoder 114 is electrically connected to the RF tuner 113 to decode the received digital TV signals. The transmission interface 12 is electrically connected to an output terminal of the decoder 114 to transmit the decoded digital TV signals to an external display (not shown) such as, for example, a desktop PC or a notebook PC. The transmission interface 12 is preferably a plug-and-play USB transmission interface for digital broadcast on the PC, and persons skilled in the art find other equivalents for the transmission interface 12 that are not enumerated here.
Accordingly, the digital TV receiver box provided with an antenna in the preferred embodiment has the following advantages: 1. The antenna is integrated into the receiver box to decrease space occupied thereby, and is thus convenient for the user to carry; 2. The antenna may be flexible and extended, it is easily retracted and is rotatable with the connector for angular adjustment when receiving signals, and its length may be adjusted to correspond with the digital television broadcast frequency spectrum, ensuring excellent reception quality.
As noted above, the above description relates to preferred embodiments of the invention and does not limit the scope of protection.
Claims (13)
- CLAIMS: 1. A digital TV receiver box provided with an antenna, comprising:a receiver box, with a circuit module for receiving digital TV signals provided inside the receiver box; and an antenna located on a surface of receiver box, the antenna being electrically connected to the circuit module.
- 2. A digital TV receiver box provided with an antenna according to claim 1, wherein the circuit module comprises.an RF tuner receiving digital TV signals through the antenna; a demodulator electrically connected to the RF tuner to decode received digital TV signals; and a transmission interface electrically connected to the demodulator to output decoded digital TV signals.
- 3. A digital TV receiver box provided with an antenna according to claim 2, wherein the circuit module comprises: an impedance matching circuit matching the impedance of the antenna with that of the circuit module.
- 4. A digital TV receiver box provided with an antenna according to any preceding claim, wherein the antenna is flexible and/or extendable.
- 5. A digital TV receiver box provided with an antenna according to any preceding claim, wherein a connector is provided between the antenna and the receiver box and electrically connected to the circuit module.
- 6. A digital TV receiver box provided with an antenna according to claim 5, wherein the connector is rotatable.
- 7. A digital TV receiver box provided with an antenna, comprising: a receiver box provided with an antenna jack and a circuit module for receiving digital TV signals, the antenna jackbeing electrically connected to the circuit module; and an antenna located on a surface of receiver box, the antenna being electrically connected to the circuit module.
- 8. A digital TV receiver box provided with an antenna according to claim 7, wherein the circuit module comprises: an RE tuner for receiving digital TV signals; a demodulator electrically connected to the RE tuner to decode received digitalTV signals; a switch selecting the antenna and one of the antenna jacks to transmit signals to the RF tuner; and a transmission interface electrically connected to the demodulator to output decoded digital TV signals.
- 9. The digital TV receiver box provided with an antenna according to claim 8, wherein the circuit module comprises: an impedance matching circuit matching the impedance of the antenna with that of the circuit module.
- 10. The digital TV receiver box provided with an antenna according to claim 7, wherein the antenna is flexible and/or extendable.
- 11. The digital TV receiver box provided with an antenna according to any of claims 7 to 10, wherein a connector is provided between the antenna and the receiver box, and the connector is electrically connected to the circuit module.
- 12. The digital TVieceiver box provided with an antenna according to claim 11, wherein the connector is rotatable.
- 13. A digital receiver box substantially as described hereinabove with reference to Figures 2 and 3 of the accompanying drawings.
