Abstract

A personal security device comprises a watch 1 having an internal chip and panic button 2 that, when pressed, will send a signal 6 to a call centre 4 giving the exact location of the individual, e.g. GPS coordinates, so that emergency services 5 can be sent out. The device also includes a vibration alert so that, when the call centre 4 receives the signal 6, it will then send a vibratory signal back to the individual to let them know that help is on its way. The internal chip may be coded with a user specific identifier so that it can only be used by the correct person.

Description

1 2425202 Personal Security Device The personal security device is exactly
what it says in a watch form. it will enable people to have emergency services available at a push of a button.
Description
The way this product will work is that the watch will have a chip installed which will enable the individual to press a panic button on the side of the watch that will send a signal via GPS to a call centre giving them the exact location of the individual for them to send out the emergency services. The PSD (Personal Security Device) watch will also consist of a vibration sensory, whereby once the call centre has received the individuals signal, they will then send a signal back to let the individual know that help is on its way. The vibration will be coming from the back of the watch. By using this method not only is it an assurance to the individual knowing that the call centre has received the signal, but also say for example if the individual is being attacked, the attacker will not know that help is on its way hence not aggravating the attacker even more than what he already might be.
The PSD will be a user specific identifier. The chip will be coded for that one individual, so it can only be used by the correct person. If lost or stolen it must be reported straight away to be deactivated as the individual will be paying a monthly subscription for the call centre services.
Because the panic button could be pressed accidentally, the call centre must receive a minimum of three signals within a space often seconds to know that the individual is in distress. If the button is pressed accidentally once or twice, and not the third time within ten seconds, the signal will automatically be cancelled out. The PSD will also be waterproof.
Advantages Nearly everybody wears watches. If a person who is wearing the PSD is in distress i.e., being attacked, abducted, raped, robbed etc, all they have to do is press their panic button. It can also be advantageous for those 2.
who might be stuck in their car in bad weather, in a fire, in a lift, if somebody is drowning or say if a person was home alone or with young children and they all of a sudden collapsed for example, due to an epilepsy fit, and found that they couldn't get up, all they would have to do is press the panic button to send for help. This way they wouldn't have to wony about getting to the phone. It is also fantastic for people going home after a night out and people who work night shifts. This product would definitely be a piece of mind for parents knowing that their children are being self guarded with the PSD from all the above as well as paedophiles. The age recommendation for children wearing the PSD can be seven upwards, however it is the parents/guardians responsibility to know how responsible the child is. It is also beneficiary if the individuals mobile phone has no reception or the battery has gone dead. The other advantages of this product is that it is compact, therefore the individual doesn't have to fiddle around in their pocket or hand bag looking for their phone or a normal panic alarm to get help. Also, if the individual is being attacked, there is a high chance that the attacker could throw their personal belongings away, with the PSD, because it is not an obvious item it would be on them all the time, allowing the individual to get help without the attacker knowing and enabling the call centre to assist the emergency services to locate the individual.
Disadvantages The only con's to the PSD is the misuse of the product. For example, the individual pressing the panic button over minor controllable arguments or children who are showing of to their friends. We can over come this by introducing a maximum of three false alarms, otherwise the individual or the parents will be fined for wasting emergency services time.
