Abstract

A door stabiliser for supporting a door (7, fig 2) whilst fitting to a door frame has height adjustable wheels 1 and preferably a base unit 6. The base unit may be made of steel, alloy, plastic or any other suitable material. The wheels may be adjusted via handles 2. Door clamps 4, operated by handles 3, may be provided for clamping the door and may be located on mounting posts 5. The wheels could further be provided with brakes. Preferably the wheels can accommodate variations in the height of a floor, can be used to set a desired spacing between the door and floor, and can be lowered to remove the door stabiliser after fitting of the door.

Description

Door Stabilizer.
Background - This invention relates to a device which stabilizes a door unaided prior to installation.
When installing a door into a door frame, it is usually difficult for one person to achieve in that as well as holding the door in position, spacing it correctly from the floor, the installer also needs to drill and screw hinges into position.
Statement of invention - To overcome this, the present invention enables the door to be clamped into position in the frame and the whole unit moved freely, being self supported and in an upright position.
Advantages - The door can be clamped into the unit and self supported enabling the door to be moved easily to the required position for fixing.
The unit allows the installer the use of both hands for marking, drilling and screwing.
The base unit is fully adjustable and free moving, allowing different tolerances to be achieved under the door, and also accommodate uneven floors.
Introduction to drawings An example of the invention will now be described by referring to the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 - Shows empty base unit without door.
Figure 2 - Shows end view of base unit with a door in position.
Figure 3 - Shows side view of base unit with a door in position.
Figure 4 - Shows plan view of base unit with a door in position.
Figure 5 - Shows base unit on an uneven floor allowing wheels to accommodate floor but still allowing door to remain horizontal.
Figure 6 - Shows how tolerance can be adjusted via adjustable wheels.
Detailed Description -
The base unit 6 which could be made Out of steel, alloy, plastic or any other suitable material.
The unit is made mobile by the use of four adjustable wheels 1 one or more could have brake fitted, these wheels are made adjustable by the use of handles 2 on a threaded bar moving clockwise or anticlockwise to higher or lower the base unit. The wheels are positioned approximately in the corners of the base unit for stability.
The door 7 is held in an upright position by means of the door clamps 4 these to be made from any material which would not damage the surface of the door. The door clamps are held in position by mounting posts 5 these can be any shape and made from any suitable material, they house the threaded bar which allow them to clamp onto the door via adjusting handles 3.

Claims (5)

  1. Claims - I. A door stabilizer unit to support a door unaided which can be
moved into position via adjustable wheels.
  2. 2. A door stabilizer unit according to claim 1 in which the unit can accommodate uneven floors by use of adjustable wheels, keeping the door horizontal to the frame.
  3. 3. A door stabilizer unit according to claim 2 in which adjustable tolerances under the door can be achieved by the use of the adjustable wheels allowing the installer to set the space between bottom of the door and the floor.
  4. 4. A door stabilizer unit according to claim 3 in which after installation of the door can be moved out by lowering the base unit via the four adjustable wheels and sliding under the door.
  5. 5. A door stabilizer unit according to claim 4 in which after installation the door has only had to be lifted into position once eliminating multiple movements of the door.
