Abstract
The nail holder includes a handle with a two pronged, flat, forked metal plate at each end, with which to hold nails and tacks in place, while driving them into a given surface with a hammer. The handle is wooden and the other parts may be made of stainless steel. The forked plates may be of differing thickness in order to hold either long nails or short nails and tacks in place. The inner edges of the V-shaped slots between the two prongs may be coated with rubber so as to prevent excess shock to the hands.
Description
The Nail Aid: A device used in conjunction with a hammer to drive nails in
a safer and more efficient manner.
A. DESCRIPTION
1. General Description of the Product
The product being considered, as conceived by Stella Bell, is The Nail Aid. The concept calls For the manufacture and distribution of a device that would be used in conjunction with a hammer to drive nails in a safer and more efficient manner.
To accomplish this, The Nail Aid would be configured as shown in the accompanying illustration (see Chapter Four, Portrayal). The purpose of this device would be to enable a tradesman or DIV enthusiast to drive a nail without the need to hold the nail between one's finger and thumb.
This, of course, often results in a painful injury when the tool misses the mark and comes down on the worker's thumb or finger. This can be a particular problem when trying to drive nails in areas with restricted access. To correct this shortcoming, The Nail Aid would consist of a tool that would enable the user to hold a nail in a supported posltion from which it could then be driven into the targeted object yet without the need to hold the nail between one's finger and thumb.
The tool would be fabricated from stainless steel and wooden components and would consist of two slotted units joined by a central handle (similar to a conventional trowel handle).
Tue groove in each piece would be tapered and lined with a coating ofrubbcr. One umt would he sized to accommodate standard nails of vardng diameters winie the other would he suitable for holding smaller nails and tacks. With this configuration, The Nail Aid would provide both tradesmen and DIV enthusiasts with a convenient and efficient way of driving nails. The device would eliminate the need to hold the nail with one's hare thumb and finger, thereby avoiding the risk of missing the nail with the hammer head and strilung one's thuniTb or finger instead
Claims (6)
1. A nail holder including a wooden handle with a two pronged, flat, forked metal plate at either end.
2. A nail holder as claimed in Claim 1 where the forked plates are of differing thicknesses.
3. One metal plate is 1.5cm thick so as to hold long nails and the other plate is 0.5cm thick so as to hold short nails and tacks in place.
4. A nail holder as claimed in Claims 1,2 and 3, the "V" shaped "cut" between the two prongs allows for nails and tacks of varying thickness to be held in place, whilst driving them into a given surface with a hammer.
5. As claimed in Claim 4 the inner edges of the "V" shaped "cut" are coated with rubber so as to prevent excess shock to the hands whilst using the Nail Aid, to hold nails and tacks in place whilst hammering them into a given surface.
6. A nail holder substantially as herein described and illustrated in the acompanying drawing.
