Abstract
A device for the spreading of fibrous materials such as mulch which can be attached to an aircraft, the device comprising an aluminium container having a conveyor and at least one impeller, the conveyor delivering material to the impeller in order for it to be dispersed. The device is preferably powered by a diesel engine, or may be powered y the aircraft. The delivery arc of the material may be adjustable. Preferably, the device may indicate the level of material left to be dispersed. The device may be formed from carbon composites and titanium.
Description
Aerial Heather & Mulch Spreader
General Description:
The machine has been designed to spread fibrous materials such as heather brash and mulches fixed to a helicopter or other airborne vehicle. Existing spreading equipment will only handle pearled or dust like material. The design is of lightweight construction combining durability and strength. The machine is constructed principally of aluminium section and sheet, with a PVC conveyor belt used as the floor. The machine is powered by 12 horsepower diesel engine driven from a series of shafts, gearboxes, gears and chains to power both conveyor belt and spreading impellors. The material is transported to rear of machine by way of conveyor belt where it is grabbed and thrown evenly by impellors. The whole machine is aerodynamically stabilised with the use of fins and elevator fitted to rear of machine and a fairing to the front.
Claims (11)
- Claims: 1. I am claiming a method of spreading fibrous materials from anairborne vehicle i.e. helicopter.
- 2. The method of spreading is by uses a vertical rotor system which may contain one or more rotors.
- 3. The material feed to the rotors is achieved by a moving floor working as a conveyor of the material.
- 4. The spreader is self powered from an internal combustion engine but could be powered from the helicopter or aircraft by electrical or hydraulic means.
- 5. The arc of delivery can be adjusted to suit requirements.
- 6. The device is aerodynamically stable and has stabilising fins and an elevator to achieve this requirement.
- 7. The aero dynamic conditions could be adjusted by the pilot of the vehicle.
- 8. Devices may be fitted to indicate the load condition and when the material is exhausted.
- 9. The spreader can be loaded using conventional methods.
- Attachment of the spreader to the helicopter can be via, conventional means which may include quick release for emergency.
- 11. The construction of the spreader may utilize advanced materials such as carbon composites and titanium.
