Abstract

A tubular member 5 is attached at one end to a pressure relief valve 17 and at the other end to a tubular mesh member 9. In operation, fluid 3 is discharged from the pressure relief valve 17 of an appliance such as a boiler, and forced through the tube 5 into the tubular mesh member 9. Preferably the tubular mesh member 9 is closed at its end opposite the tubular member 5 by a hollow blanking stop to prevent the fluid 3 from exiting through the end of the tubular mesh member 9. Instead, the fluid 3 is diffused through the openings 13 in the wall of the tubular mesh member 9, thereby reducing the risk of hot water being discharged onto a passer-by located beneath the discharge outlet of the pressure relief valve. An inner secondary finer mesh member 15 may also be provided.

Description

1. 2423344 DEVICE FOR DIVERTiNG HOT WATER DISCHARGED FROM A PRESSURERISED
RELEIFE VALVE.
BACKGROUND TO INVENTION
The invention relates to pressurised heating vessel that require safety relief valves being terminated to an external point. It is a specification requirement that pressurised boiler and any other heating system have a pressure relief valve to automatically reduces the high pressure with in the system, to the required safety limit. A pressure relief valve is therefore fitted to the boiler or system for this purpose.
A discharge pipe is linked to the pressure relief valve to transfer the product of excess pressure from the appliance (generally to an out side wall facing down wards) as specified.
The termination of the discharge pipe as required can generally be complied with if the appliance is installed at a reasonable height. (i.e. in a basement, ground or first floor. However if the appliance is installed at a high level (i.e. higher then the second floor in a block of apartment /flats) it can be very difficult to get at the discharge pipe out let from out side the building to terminate the out let correctly! as required by the boiler manufactures.
OBJECTS AND SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The invention seeks to reduce the problems experienced in terminating the appliance pressure relief valve out let to an external wall particularly when the appliance is installed in premises that are beyond a certain height in a building.
The invention further seeks to reduce the risk of hot water being discharged on to an suspecting passer by (at any level) should the auto vent suddenly open up if the victim happens to with in the range of the discharged hot water from the appliance.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWiNG/S
As the fluid 3 is automatically discharged from the appliance pressure relief valve 17.
The fluid is forced through the tube 5 through the connector 7 that is linked to 5 at 17.
The fluid passes through the connector 7 that links the Primary circular mesh retainer 9 that is inserted into the connector at 21. The primary mesh retainer 9 is inserted into a stop end 12 at 23. The stop end is to prevent the fluid 3 that is being forced through the tube 5 from being discharged under force out of the end of the mesh retainer 9.
The pressurised water 3 is further defused and redirected through an inner secondary finer mesh 15 as the fluid is discharged through 13 into the atmosphere.

Claims (4)

  1. CLAIMS: 1) A tubular device consisting of an internal channel of a
specified dimension to transfer steam and/or hot or cold water The device is connected to the pressure relief valve of a heater, boiler (or any other source r'equiring discharge of excess pressurized fluid) at one end, and attached on the Opposite side, to a tubular coil of wire meshes.
  2. 2) The series of overlapping coiled wire meshes as in (1) is connected to the open end of the tubular device, (on one end) and connected to a hollow blanking stop end on the opposite side.
  3. 3) A terminal blanking stop end as in (2) consist of a blank stop end at one end and an opening on the other side. It also has an internal channel of a specified diameter and dept, and is connected to the open end to the wire mesh coil diffuser.
  4. 4) The terminal as in 3 stops the fluid or steam from flowing out of the tubular device and coiled wire mesh into the atmosphere uncontrolled.
This build up of pressured fluid or steam with in the device is then forced out of the device through the coiled wire mesh section of the device at a pre directed point.
