Abstract
A tool for unblocking drains comprises a part which is inserted in a drain hole and rotated to clear an obstruction in said drain hole. The tool may be rotated by an electric drill, and may comprise a first elongate piece of material 12 with a second piece of material 14 attached either rigidly or flexibly at a distal end thereof. The second piece of material may be attached to the first by means of a hinge 15, 16. The second piece of material may be thinner or less resilient than the first.
Description
I
1 2423126 Drain Blockage Clearance Tool The invention relates to a drill, attachment or a complete purpose made tool incorporating an electric motor and detachable spinner, it's purpose is to clear a blockage to a sink, bath, shower tray or anything else that incorporates a drain hole. It is particularly effective at clearing a blockage to a plumbing trap commonly found below the drain holes of baths, sinks, shower trays and any thing else that has a drain hole.
It is used to clear the blockage by simply inserting the attachment down through the plug hole and turning it at speed by means of an electric drill or any other form of rotation including manual or a purpose made electric motor.
It requires no dismantling of any plumbing or the use of any chemicals.
Other drain clearance tools that enter the drain through the plug hole and commonly used in the home by the householder have the disadvantage of just pushing through the obstruction rather than breaking it up as my invention does.
It can be made from any suitable material including wood, metal, plastic and nylon or a mixture of such materials.
It can be made of one material if factory methods of manufacture are used, for instance pressed nylon or moulded nylon. The end result is the same a short arm spinning at the end of a spindle.
The one I have made is made from a length of plastic coated wire, the type found on wire coat hangers with a piece of strimmer nylon attached to the end by tape or clip on any method suitable to join the two parts, any suitable materials can be used to manufacture the drain clearing tool.
The simplicity of my invention is another of it's advantages.
A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing (Fig.1) which shows a side view of the invention. It is not to scale. The drill or other means of rotation is fitted to the spindle end of the tool and the tool pushed through the drain hole (plug hole) it is then turned at speed to break up and remove the blockage. The spinning of the strimmer nylon has the effect of increasing the diameter of the spinning nylon into the obstruction and breaking it up in order for water to flush it away. The tool can be manufactured to different lengths of the spindle and striminer wire. The tool can also be manufactured as a one material item using factory methods of manufacture.
Fig 1 shows a side view of the tool Fig 1-12 shows the end of the tool to which the rotation device is fitted.
Fig 1-13 shows the joint between the spindle and spinning arm Fig 1-14 shows the lower part of the tool that enters the drain hole (plug hole) first.
Fig 15 and 16 show 2 alternate ways of joining the spinning part of the tool to the main spindle. Any compatible method of joint can be used.
The means of rotation must be battery powered only.
Claims (7)
- Claims 1 A drain clearance tool that is inserted into a sink, bath, showeror other drain hole (plug hole) and spun in order to remove a blockage.
- 2 A drain clearance tool that can be manufactured from any suitable material including wood, metal, plastic and nylon wire.
- 3 A drain clearance tool substantially described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings (
- 4 A drain clearance device that can be spun by any means of rotation including an electric drill.
- A drain clearance device consisting of a longer semi rigid wire type spindle attached to a shorter thinner more flexible material by means of a rigid or flexible joint to enable it to spread when being rotated by a rotation device at the spindle end.
- 6 A drain clearance device consisting of a longer semi rigid wire type spindle attached to a thinner material by means of a hinge in order for the thinner material to spread when being rotated by a rotation device at the spindle end.
- 7 A tool as claimed in any proceeding claim which is made from any suitable material or materials..
