Abstract

Apparatus (52) for indicating a bite from a fish during fishing, which apparatus (52) comprises at least one transmitter (30) and at least one receiver (38), the transmitter (30) having holder means for holding a fishing line such that a bite or an attempted bite from the fish causes the transmitter (30) to transmit to the receiver (38), the receiver (38) having audio and/or visual alarm means for giving an alarm consequent upon receiving the transmission from the transmitter (30), the transmitter (30) and receiver (38) being such that they operate in coded communication with each other in order to avoid false alarms, characterised in that the apparatus (52) has the code on code-carrying means (54) which is external to the transmitter (30) and receiver (38) and which is loaded into the transmitter (30) and receiver (38) consequent upon a user inserting the code-carrying means (54) into the transmitter (30) and receiver (38).
