Abstract

A device (100, 200, 300) having an indicator (102, 202, 306) alignable with an object in space and display means (204, 308) for showing the distance from the Earth or Sun to that object The device (100, 500, 600) may rotate about a single axis, and have a plurality of indicator arms (102) pointing at a selection of predetermined 'fixed' stars. The device (200, 300, 400, 600) may include an indicator arm (202, 306, 402, 403,606) movable with two degrees of freedom to track a moving celestial object e.g. the Sun. Alternatively, the device (500) may include an array (502) of selectively operable indicia to track said moving celestial object. To make display means (608) mounted on an indicator arm (606) more legible, the lower part of the indicator arm (606) is made heavier so that it always hangs below the upper part due to gravity.
