Abstract

Apparatus that allows a bath to be filled automatically via an electrically operated solenoid valve which is controlled by a timed control panel. The temperature of the bath water may be controlled by a thermostatic mixing valve. Isolating valves may be placed on both the hot and cold pipe work feeding the bath taps. The timer on the control panel may be overridden to allow the shower to be used.

Description

I-
A-tJTO BATH This invel-bjon relates to a device to take the waiting time and worry of overflowing out of running a bath, When running a bath the user has to continually check and adj- ust the temperature as well as monitor the water level so the ba-th does not Overflow, If the bath i left un attended and both taps a-re rUnning together, the volume of water entering the bath i oft to much for the overflow to cope with, causing overflow izrg to Occur, and severe damage to property1 To Overcome these problems the present invention proposes to fill a bath a-'utomatjc&iy by War of a simple tiMed push button con- trol panel, wall mounted Possibly above the bath out of the reach of a child, or ust outside the bathroom, depending on electricity regulatio5 (although so long as the control panel is water proofed, th1 is no different to an electric shower), The temperature of the bath is controlled by installing a ther- mostaitic mixing valve, and the depth of the bath is controlled by installing an electrically operated solenoid valve controlled via the control panel. The invention will uow be described solely by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which, Figure I shorrs a typical Plpework arrangeme to a conventional standard bath., Figure 2 how valve set up for automatl0 operation on standard pillar taps, bath/shower Mixer ta-ps, Figure 3 ShOwS valve arrangeme for ideally suited thermostatic bath/shore. mixer taps, Figure 4- shows propos-ed layout of control Pane1 Figure I,, a typical PiPework arrangeme is shown to supply waer toh,c bath taps for manual operation only, Figure 2, sho& pipework and valve arrangement for automatic operation to h,c bath taps (pillar ta-ps or bath/shower mixer taps), Isolating valves I&2 are installed on the hot and cold Pipevrork before thermostatic mixing valve 3, hot supply pipework then connects to hot inlet o thermostatic mixing valve 3, cold supply pipework branches off to connect to cold inlet on ther.
mos-tatic mixing valve 3, then re connects to c bath tap, to give manual operation in the case of a child bath for example, hot outlet on thermostatic mixing valve 3 then Passes through solenoid valve 4, at water temperature mixed to suit Users desired setting, from solenoid valve 4, hot supp7 pipeyro then re connects to bath tap h, which is left Permanently open a-s water flow i controlled by on/off operation of solenoid valve 4, whilst the bath is running only bath tap li will be in use, so if solenoid valve 4 ever stick open causing the water to run eontinuous1., the 9verflow should be more than Sufficient to cope with just one tap, bath tap h can then be closed man- ually until solenoid valve 4 is repaired OPeration of solenoid valve 4 is controlled via control panel 5 on a timed basis lit minutes and ro second increments, counting down, A, constant button will be installed for the operation of bath/shower mixers, as well, as start/stop) and clear/reset but- tons,. control panel 5 will be mains powered, with power to solenoid valve 4 P ssibly low voltage.
Figure 3 ahow alternative PiPevTork/valve arrangement if ther- mostatic bath/swer mixers are istalled or are being installed at tine of automatic irntal1atiou Thermostatj bath/shower mixer 6 is ideally suited as tM gives the added benefit of altering the desired temperature instantly as well, as excluding the need to install a thermostatic mixing Talve 3 under the bath, thus reg,ujj unnecessary removal of bath panel to man- ually alter desired temperature.
FIgure 4 shows the proposed layout of control panel 5, to in- clude a minute button 7, alO second increment button 8, a con- staitrt button 9, a start/stop button ro, and a clear/reset button A digltai display with lue L.E.D backgrou and Wipeclean surface is also Pl?OpO5ed.
All materials are currently on the market supplied by reputable companys,, apart from control panel Which is currently being designed. CLArN
