Abstract

A mattress elevator 1,2 to be used between a mattress and a bed base comprises a restraint which extends from the elevator to the foot end of the mattress and base to prevent the mattress and elevator from sliding in use. The restraint is preferably formed from a number of straps 7,8,10,11 which are wrapped around the foot end of the mattress and/or the bed base and straps 6,9 which are secured to attachment means 13,16 on the elevator. The restraint prevents the elevator from moving towards the head end of the bed base and the mattress moving towards the foot end of the bed base.

Description

MATTRESS ELEVATOR RESTRAINT MEANS
PSCRIPTION
The use of mattress elevators to elevate the head end of a bed is well known.
Such devices are commonly attached to the bed base by means of straps under and across the bed base as shown in Fig 1-4 item (4).
In some cases extra straps are applied under the bed base and across the bed base or along the bed base i.e. at 90 degrees to the strap (4) shown in the figures.
The mattress is commonly attached to the bed base by a strap across the hinge line of the mattress elevator shown in Figs 1-4 item (5).
In some cases additional straps are placed around the bed base.
A common problem with the fitting of such mattress elevators is that during use the mattress elevator moves off the head of the bed and the mattress moves off the foot of the bed.
The present invention is designed to attach the mattress elevator to the foot end of the mattress thus preventing them both from moving.
In order that the invention may be better understood reference will now be made to Figs 1-4 where Fig I shows the invention attached to a bed and with the mattress fully elevated Fig 2 shows the invention attached to a bed and shows the underside of the bed Fig 3 shows the invention attached to a bed with the mattress fully elevated, this view looking at the back of the elevated mattress Fig 4 shows the same view as Fig 1 but with the mattress removed.
The mattress elevator frame (1) is attached to the bed base (14) by means of the strap (4). The mattress (15) is attached to the bed base (14) and mattress elevator frame (1) by means of strap (5). The actuator (3) is extended or retracted to move the mattress elevator movable frame (2) to the elevated / flat position. This part of the attachment means so far described is generally common knowledge.
An embodiment of the present invention is the addition of the straps 6,7,8,9,10,11 straps 7,8,10,11 are attached at (12}to each other and straps 6,9 are attached to the mattress elevator frame (2) at strap attachment points (13) and(16).
This arrangement prevents the mattress elevator from moving off the head of the bed because straps 6,7,8,9,10,11 prevent the movement. Similarly the force exerted by the mattress elevator towards the head of the bed prevents the mattress (15) from moving off the foot of the bed.
Further embodiments of the invention are constructed by moving straps 7and 11 or stops S & 10 to a position between the mattress (15) and the bed base (14).
Still further embodiments of the invention can be constructed by the use of any section of any material that is constructed to make a connection between the mattress elevator and the foot end of the mattress (15). In such cases the restraint means to the foot end of thc rnattiss may rtrajn th rna.t.ss by any means.
Accordingly the present invention comprises a stabilising means for preventing the longitudinal movement of a mattress elevator and the associated mattress when fitted on a bed base and comprising an attachment means to the mattress elevator coupled to a restraint means thai prevents the foot end of the mattress from moving off the base, such restraint means being arranged such that the force of the mattress elevator moving towards the head end of the bed during operation is wholly or partially offset by the force of the mattress moving towards the foot of the bed.

Claims (7)

1) A stabilising means for preventing the longitudinal movement of a mattress elevator and the associated mattress when fitted on a bed base and comprising an attachment means to the mattress elevator coupled to a restraint means that prevents The foot end of the mattress from moving off the base, such restraint means being arranged such that the force of the mattress elevator moving towards the head end of the bed during operation is wholly or partially offset by the force of the mattress moving towards the foot of the bed.
2) A claim as claimed in claim I where the restraint means is in the form of a flat strap and generally arranged as described.
3) A claim as in claim 1 where the restraint means is in the form of a substantially circular section tape and generally arranged as described.
4) A claim as in claim 1 where the restraint means is in the form of any other shaped material and is made from any other material.
5) A claim as in claims 1-4 where the connection of the restraint means to the mattress elevator or to the foot end of the mattress is effected in any other fonn.
6) A claim claims 1-5 where the restraint means at the foot of the bed restrains the movement of the mattress elevator by the restraint action applied to the foot end of the mattress and of the bed base, the principle of which is showninFigsl..4.
7) A claim as in claims 1-5 where the restraint means at the foot of the bed restrains the movement of the mattress elevator by the restraint action applied to the foot end of the mattress only, where straps 7 and 11 moved to be between the bed base and the mattresses
7) A claim as claims 1-5 where the restraint means at the foot of the bed restrains the movement of the mattress elevator by the restraint action applied to the foot end of the mattress only, the principle of which is shown in Figs 1- 4 with straps 7 and 11 moved to be between the bed base and the mattresses.
8) A claim as claims 1-5 where the restraint means at the foot of the bed restrains the movement of the mattress elevator by the restraint action applied to the foot end of bed base only, the principle of which is shown in Figs 1-4 with staps 8 & 10 moved to be between the bed base and the mattress. /
Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows I) A stabilising means for preventing the longitudinal movement of a mattress elevator and the associated mattress when fitted on a bed base and comprising an attachment means to the mattress elevator coupled to a restraint means, acting on the foot end of the mattress and / or the foot end of the bed base that prevents the foot end of the mattress from moving off the base, said restraint means being arranged to also pass over the upper surface of the mattress at the foot end of the bed and over the upper or lower surface of the bed base at the foot end of the bed, such restraint means being arranged such that the force acting upon the mattress elevator causing it to move towards the head end of the bed during operation is wholly or paially offset by the force acting upon the mattress causing it to move towards the foot of the bed, said arrangement also preventing the mattress elevator from moving towards the head of the bed.
2) A claim as claimed in claim I where the restraint means is in the form ofa flat strap.
3) A claim as in claim 1 where the restraint means is in the form of a substantially circular section tape.
4) A claim as in claim I where the restiaint means is in the form of any other shaped material and is made from any other material.
5) A claim as in claims 1-4 where the connection of the restraint means to the mattress elevator or to the foot end of the mattress is effected in any other form.
6) A claim as in claims 1-5 where the restraint means at the foot of the bed restrains the movement of the mattress elevator by the restraint action applied to the foot end of both the mattress and of the bed base.
