Abstract
A cable management arm 1 is located between a pair of parallel slides 2 that also support a slide in chassis. The arm is split into two main sections that are hinged together at a central retractable member 13. One end 11 of the arm is fixed to the rear of one of the slides by a pivoting connection. The other end 12 of the arm is slidably attached to the same slide via a similar pivoting connection. A sliding member 15 extends from the hinge and engages with a channel 143 of a support slide 14. The support slide has ends 141, 142 which slidably engage the pair of slides 2. The support slide provides additional support to the centre of the cable management arm and moves with the arm.
Description
TITLE: CABLE MANAGEMENT ARM
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
(a) Field of the Invention
The present invention relates to a cable management arm applied in an electronic product with slide-in storage space, and more particularly, to one adapted with an additional support slide to partially bear the mass of the cable management arm.
(b) Description of the Prior Art
A conventional electronic product, such as a server, mounted on a io slide-in chassis, has been provided on its both sides each a slide it to travel on both slides, and a cable management arm to contain and restrict the cable.
As taught in US Patent Nos. 4,353,518; 4,614,383, 5,571,256, 6,303,864B1, 6,305,556B1, 6442,030B1, 6,600,665B1, and US patent application Nos. US 2003/0026084A1, US 2003/0222034A1, and US 2004/007971 IA1, the cable management arm is usually adapted with two slides having both ends as supports and a retractable member, generally in a form of a hinge, is provided between both ends; and the retractable member when retracted is suspended to stay away from either end.
However, the retractable member of the cable management arm tends to droop over a certain period of time to negatively affect the operation in a highly intensively slide-in space due to the inherited mass of the cable and the cable management arm.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The primary purpose of the present invention is to provide a cable management arm adapted with two slides that extends the service life of the cable management arm and offers easy operation by partially bearing the mass of the cable management arm to prevent the retractable member from drooping. To achieve the purpose, an additional support slide is provided with two support ends respectively traveling both slides, and the retractable member between two ends of the cable management ann is provided with a sliding member supported by and traveling on the support slide.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED
EMBODiMENTS Referring to Figs. 1, 2, and 3, a first preferred embodiment of the present invention comprises a cable management arm (I) adapted with a pair of slides (2).
The cable management arm (1) is comprised of two or more than two sections and has one end (Ii) and another end (12). One end (11) is fixed to and pivoting on the left slide (2) (seen from the front) while the other end (12) travels along and is pivoting on the left slide (2) as the left o slide (2) extends. A retractable member (13) is deposited at the middle of the cable management arm (1) (i.e., a hinge in the preferred embodiment) with both sides extended each a foldable portion to respectively connect both sections of the cable management arm (I). A support slide (14) is provided below the cable management arm (1). The support slide (14) has one end (141) and another end (142). The two ends (141, 142) of the support slide (14) are each made in a form of a slide block integrated with the support slide (14). A channel (143) is provided between the two ends (141, 142). A sliding member (15) is provided to the retractable member (13). In the preferred embodiment, the sliding member (15) is deposited below the retractable member (13) to be inserted into and slide in the channel (143).
Accordingly, both ends (141, 142) relatively travel along the left slide (2) while the sliding member (15) relatively travels in the channel (143) of the support slide (14). The mass of the cable management arm (1) and the cable (not illustrated) are partially borne by the support slide (14) through the sliding member (15). As illustrated in Fig. 4, when both ends (11, 12) of the cable management arm (1) spread up between both right and left slides (2), the sliding member (15) below the retractable member (13) travels in the channel (143) of the support slide (14) to drive the support slide (14) traveling with its both ends (141, 142) along both right and left slides (2) to bear the mass of the cable management arm (1) and the cable together with both ends (11, 12) of the cable management arm (1).
Now referring to Figs. 5 and 6 for a second preferred embodiment of the present invention, both ends (141A, 142A) of a support slide (14A) of the cable management arm (1) are respectively pivoted to the support io slide (14A) respectively with two pivoting pins (144A, 145A). The pivoting pin (144A) is inserted to and traveling on a laterally provided slot (146A) in parallel with either slide (2). Accordingly, when both ends (1141 A, 1 42A) of the support slide (1 4A) respectively travel on both right and left slides (2), the slot (146A) indicates a certain inclination to instead of being vertical to both right and left slides (2) due to the travel of the pivoting pin (144A) in the slot (146A) so to facilitate the sliding member (15) to travel in a channel (l43A) when the cable management arm (1) opens up or closes in.
As illustrated in Figs. 7 and 8, a third preferred embodiment of the present invention has a support slide (14B) deposited at a right angle to the right and left slides (2) while a channel (l43B) of the support slide (14B) is at a certain inclination to the right and left slides (2) to facilitate the travel of the sliding member (15) in the channel (143B).
The fourth preferred embodiment of the present invention as illustrated in Fig. 9 has a retractable member (13C) deposited as an independent member at where both sections of the cable management arm (I) are pivoted to each other. Both ends of the independently provided retractable member (13C) are respectively pivoted to both sections of the cable management arm (I) for both sections of the cable management arm to become respectively retractable. Furthermore, a sliding member (15C) is provided below the retractable member (13C) to be inserted to and travel in a channel (l43C) of a support slide (14C).
Fig. 10 shows a connection between a support slide and the slide of a fifth preferred embodiment of the present invention. As illustrated, a support slide (l4D) is provided at where in relation to the means of the slide (2) and travels thereon. A sliding block adapted to one end (141D) io of the support slide (1 4D) is provided with a connection part (1 47D) to be connected to a rear end of a guide track (21 D) in the slide (2) for the support slide (14D) to synchronously travel with the slide (2).
Alternatively, as illustrated in Fig. 11 showing a connection between a support slide (14E) and the slide (2) in a sixth preferred embodiment of is the present invention, one end (141E) of the support slide (14E) is directly connected to the rear end of a guide track (21E) in the slide (2) .
As illustrated in Fig. 12 showing a connection between a support slide (14F) and the slide (2) of a seventh preferred embodiment of the present invention, one end (141 F) and another end (not illustrated) of the support slide (14F) are inserted onto the slides (2) in a type of an insertion holder.
Now referring to Figs. 13 and 14 for an eighth preferred embodiment of the present invention, a support slide (l4G) is comprised of an outer slide (148G) and an inner slide (149G) inserted into each other to constitute a retractable slide. Both ends (141G, 142G) facing outwardly are each made in the form of a pivoted sliding block. A channel (143G) is provided on the outer slide (148G) for the insertion to slide by a sliding member (15G) of the cable management arm (1).
Accordingly, the support slide (14G) becomes retractable and indicates a certain inclination in relation to the slides (2) thus to further facilitate the sliding member (15G) to travel in the channel (143G) when the cable s management arm (1) expands or closes up.
