Abstract
One-piece liquid dispensing closure comprises a main body 10a having an engagement profile 12 to attach the closure to a container, and an annular bore seal 14, a spout 16 having a flared lip 18 encircling an aperture, the spout being hingeably connected to the main body by a flexible frusto-conical membrane 20. A sealing plug 22 is positioned beneath the aperture of the spout 16 and connected to the spout by radial fins or ribs 24. A downwardly angled annular flexible sealing diaphragm 26 is molded to an inner wall of the main body 10b and forms a shut off valve with the plug. In a dispensing position the spout may be pulled upward or popped out to disengage the diaphragm from the plug and thus allowing the dispensing of liquid, in a closed position the spout is pushed downward so that the diaphragm forms a seal with the plug.

ONE PIECE LIQUID CLOSURE
This invention relates to a one piece closure/dispenser providing a quick and easy means of dispensing liquid from a bottle.
A know closure for dispensing liquid,, comprises of a two piece moulding, in which the base component is - engaged onto the neck of a bottle, attached to the upper portion of the base, is a pull up spout. In the down position the liquid is sealed, upon raising the spout. the seal is disengaged enabling the liquid to be dispensed.
The disadvantage of this closure is that it has two components which have to be moulded separately and assembled. The known closure Is thus expensive to manufacture.
According to the first aspect of the present invention, comprises of an integrally moulded (one piece) closure, injection moulded from a flexible material preferably in low density polyethylene or alternatively polypropylene or high density polyethylene.
For the purpose of simplicity the description of the closure will be divided into three main named separate entities (according to function) Le. main body, spout, and. valve, all connected by separately described but no less important ancillary components.
The main body being a hollow cylinder with - an upper diametrically smaller cylinder the maIn body being attached to the host bottle by means of a deep profiled irremovable annular ring, (therefore elrminaling the need for tamer evidence) or alternatively a thread coupled with a tamper evident ring.
The spout comprises of a hollow cylinder, at the extreme top is an outwardly formed annular lifting lip.
Situated a short distance below the spout is the sealing plug (distance determined by desired liquid flow) which is in the form of a blind hallow cylinder with a conical top, whose outside diameter is approximately equal to the inside diameter of the spout.
Conveniently the aforesaid spout and plug seal are connected by a radially positioned and upwardly extending plurality of ribs, the ribs being attached to the top conical surface of the plug seal and the inner surface of the spout, and terminating at the start radius of the lifting lip, thus creating a passage for liquid flow and rigidity to the spout Conveniently, the spout and plug seal are hingeably attached to the smaller uppoer cylinder which is part of the main body, by means of a flexible frusta-conical membrane.
Attached to the inside wall of the upper main body cylinder and positioned directly below the sealing plug is a downwardly angled annular flexible seal, the tip of which forms an orifice whose opening is marginally smaller than the outer diameter of the plug seal.
Advantagesly in the closures open position allows the flow of liquid from the bottle passing the flexible seal and through the slots above the plug seal and finally discharging through the spout.
Upon depressing the spout the flexible frusta-conical membrane which hingeably connects the spout to the main body, distorts and inverts with a spring-like action and mirrors the angle along its horizontal axis which has forced the plug seal into the orifice of the flexible annular seal which consiructs around of the plug, resulting in a liquid tight seal.
A second optional component would be a tamper-evident dust cover, which shrouds the spout and engages onto an annular profile on the u part of the main body. i:i:

A more cost-effective way would be a detachable heat seal membran with a pull tag, this being adhered to the top rim of the spout. Z < The invention will now be described by way of example only with c' reference to the accompanying drawings in which: 1w Figure 1 is a schematic cross sectional representation of a closure according to a present invention showing the form in which it is moulded; Figure2 is a plan view of the closure shown in figure 1; Figure 3 is a schematic cross-sectional representation of the inner tool cones; Figure 4 is a schematic crosssectional representation of the closure in its closed position; Figure 5 is a schematic cross-sectional representation of the closure in its open position, demonstrating the liquid passage.
The closure comprises a hollow cylindrical main body portion I OA which at its open end has an annular container engagement profile 12, and an annular bore seal 14. The closure further comprises a spout 16 of a hollow cylindrical form and at the top having an outwardly flared lip 18 and is hingeably connected to the upper main body I (}B by a flexible frusta-conical membrane 20. The sealing plug 22 the form of which is a blind hollow cylinder with a conical top and is situated beneath and slightly away from the bottom inner aperture of the spout 16 these two items 22 & 16 are connected by radially positioned fins 24 fig I & 2 which are moulded to the inner wall of the spout 16 and the outer conical form of the sealing plug.
The downwardly angled annular flexible sealing diaphragm 26 is moulded to the inner wall of the upper main body lOB and is situated below the sealing plug 22 thus positioned to except entry of the aforesaid plug, therefore in the closed position forming a seal between 22 & 26, and at the end of the moulding cycle the ring seal 26 is stretched out of the mould.
Fig 3 illustrates a simple cross-sectional view of the two inner tool moulding cores 28, 30, and the relationship at the point of connection at the shut-off face, 32 thus creating a gap for the passage of liquid.
Fig 4 illustrates the closure in the shut position with the seals in contact, thereby denying the passage of liquid.
Fig 5. illustrates the closure in the open position and the passage of liquid.
