Abstract

The invention concerns a radio beacon for transmitting a distress signal. The beacon includes a signal generator which includes a non-ovenised crystal oscillator to generate a carrier frequency for a transmission signal. A radio frequency transmitter is provided to transmit a series of signal bursts of the transmission signal. A battery power supply is included to supply power to the beacon to transmit the series of signal bursts. Control electronics are provided to substantially prevent the carrier frequency of the transmission signal changing during transmission of each burst.
