Abstract
A miniature wireless audio amplifier that plugs directly, without cable, into the mains socket 8 by including a mains plug section 1, also provides connecting points for speakers 2 and 3. A music signal from the source is received by the built-in wireless audio receiver of the device over the air from a compatible audio transmitter connected to an audio source. The received audio signal is then amplified by the internal amplifier and outputs are provided for connection with speakers 6 via speaker sockets 2 and 3. Unlimited additional units of the device can be added with no extra wiring to the mains socket 8 or the source, and can be removed just as easily. The unit may include a channel selection button 4 and to display the selected channel a numeric display 5 is provided. The unit may also be 12V powered.
Description
Wireless plug-top audio amplifier The invention relates to a wireless
audio amplifier designed to be plugged directly, without cable, into any mains power outlet socket and receive audio signals from a compatible wireless audio transmission and provide speaker outputs for direct connection to speakers.
A conventional audio system consists of a source (e.g. CD, Radio etc), an amplifier and speakers. Cables are used to connect the source to the amplifier then to the speakers, and both source and amplifier are also connected to the mains using cables for power. If more speakers are to be deployed in the installation, more speakers and amplifiers will be required, hence requiring even more cabling. In a custom installed audio system, it is generally very difficult to expand or relocate the system since the wiring for the source, amplifier and speakers are often permanently routed throughout the building, especially when the installation involves more than one room.
This invention is designed to eliminate at least two-thirds of the wiring from a typical audio system installation allowing total freedom for expansion, configuration and portability. This wireless plug-top audio amplifier is designed to be plugged directly into the mains socket (therefore eliminating the mains cable) and it provides connecting points for speakers. Music signal from the source is received by the device's own built-in wireless audio receiver over the air from a compatible audio transmitter connected to a source; hence no wiring is required from the source to the device either. Since the signal is received over the air, unlimited additional units of the device can be added with no extra wiring to the mains or the source, and can be removed just as easily.
The wireless plug-top audio amplifier is small and plugs into any conventional mains socket and therefore it does not need any physical support. It has multi-channel reception capability thus allowing the device to receive different music sources from different transmitters. The unit has a built in universal power supply which means it can be used in any where in the world even when the local electricity supply voltage can vary from country to country. A 1 2V version is also available for use in battery operated situations such as in caravans and yachts.
The design and concept of the device are illustrated in the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 shows the Right Side view of the device where 1 is the mains plug section of the wireless amplifier, 2 is the Right Output Channel of the amplifier where you connect your Right speaker to, and 4 is the channel selection button for the wireless selection (location may vary) Figure2 shows the Left Side view of the device where 1 is the mains plug section of the wireless amplifier, 3 is the Left Output Channel of the amplifier where you connect your Left speaker to, and 4 is the channel selection button for the wireless selection (location may vary) Figures shows the Front view of the device where l is the mains plug section of the wireless amplifier, 2 is the Right Output Channel of the amplifier where you connect your Right speaker to, 3 is the Left Output Channel of the amplifier where you connect your Left speaker to. Please note that the mains plug design will vary for different countries, the one illustrated is UK type, US and Europe plug type are available.
Figure 4 shows the Back view of the device where 2 is the Right Output Channel of the amplifier where you connect your Right speaker to, 3 is the Left Output Channel of the amplifier where you connect your Left speaker to, 4 is the channel selection button for the wireless selection (location may vary), and 5 is the receiver channel selection display (location may vary).
Figure 5 shows a typical example of the device in use where 6 are the speakers, 7 are the speaker wires connected from the device 11 to the speakers 6. The device 11 is plugged to the mains wall socket 8. A typical music source such as a radio tuner 9 may be connected to a compatible transmitter 10 to transmit music signals to the device 1 1.
Figure 6 shows a conventional 2 room system with a radio 9 as a source. In this system interconnecting leads are required to connect between the radio 9 and the amplifier 12. The radio 9 and the amplifier 12 also need to have mains cable and plug 14 to function. Long cables will be required if the distance between the source and the amplifier increases.
Figure 7 shows the same system as Figure 6 but using the invention to simplify the 2 room installation. This much simplified system comprises of the same Radio 9 connected to the mains via plug l 4. The radio is then connected to a wireless audio transmitter 15 compatible with the "wireless amplifier in a plug" device 1 1 via interconnecting cable 13. The received audio signal from the transmitter 15 is then received and amplified by the device 11 and then output to the speakers 6 via speaker cables 7. For the next room simply add another device 11, speakers 6 and connect them together with speaker cables 7.
Note: You expand the system as much as you like and you will still only need the 3 items per room: the device 11, speaker cables 7 and speakers 6.
