Abstract
A pot handler and cane support comprising a top plate 1 located on a plant pot 2 and releasably held in position by a retaining wire 6. This wire is connected to the drainage hole of the pot by an anchor clip. Attached to the top plate is a cane clamp which supports a cane 10. The cane is secured to the clamp by a tie 11. With the cane and device fitted the pot may be easily lifted and moved by grasping the cane.
Description
POT HANDLER AND CANE SUPPORT
This invention relates to a pot handler and cane support.
Flowerpots are a much-used method for growing individual plants enabling them to be moved and positioned as desired. When being moved the dangers of bending to pick them up are well known such as damage to the back, damage to the eyes and face on canes and foliage. Also lifting of the pot causes the top of the cane or plant to foul doorways, beams etc. making the carrier stoop to avoid them.
Canes are usually pushed into the soil within the pot to support a plant as it grows but often the canes become loose.
According to the present invention there is provided a means for easy handling of flowerpots by way of firm attachment of a cane to a pot so that pot and contents can be lifted by grasping a cane. There is a top plate with a means to locate it on the top of a pot and a means of fixing it there by way of tensioned wire kept taut by a restraint or anchor clip whose other end locates and anchors in a drain hole of the pot. This arrangement provides a stable platform for a cane clamp to be attached to the top plate.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure I shows in perspective the pot handler and cane support mounted on a rigid flowerpot.
Figure 2 shows plan view of pot handler and cane support.
Figure 3 shows front elevation.
Figure 4 shows side elevation with section of pot.
Figure 5 shows plan view of a top plate design for use on non-rigid pots of specific diameter.
Figure 6 Shows section 'A' - 'A' of Figure 5 Referring to the drawing the pot handler and cane support comprises a top plate 1 located on the top of a rigid flowerpot 2 with locations 3 against the outside ATE of the pot.
Attached to the top plate with a screw and wing nut 4 is a cane clamps. Wire His bent to conform through holes 7 subtending to lower outside of pot where it is held taut by anchor clip 8 whose other end is shown inserted into drain hole 9 of the pot. A substantial cane 10 is Dimly fixed to the cane clamp using a tie 11 or other clip.
More than one size of rigid pot can be used with the pot handler as described. (
For handling of non-rigid pots the design of the top plate differs, see figures 5 & 6, allowing for the pot to be located around its rim against a skirt location 12. Other principles are the same.
Claims (1)
1 A pot handler and cane support has a top plate with means to locate it on the top of a pot and a means of fixing it there by way of tensioned wire kept taut by a restraint or anchor clip whose other end locates and anchors in a drain hole of the pot. The top plate thus provides a stable platform onto which a clamp is attached to accept a cane which not only supports the plant but also enables the pot and plant to be lifted and manoeuvred by grasping it.
