Abstract

A floating level indicator comprising a stem 1 which is attached to a float 2 which is balanced by weight 5. An adjustable perforated locator disk 3 can be placed on the stem 1 and positioned where required and is held in place by an 'o' ring 4. The whole assembly can be placed in a funnel that is being used to fill a tank and the float 2 situated where it will rise as the liquid in the tank nears its full capacity. The level indicator could be made from plastic or light alloy and the weight used to balance the float could be small lead shot.

Description

FLOATING LEVEL INDICATOR
This invention relates to the common funnel which is used to fill a container with minimal risk of spilling.
The design of the funnel is well known but as a tank is being filled it is usually impossible to gauge when it is almost full and about to overflow.
Therefore this invention provides a level indicator by way of a hollow stem with a balanced float that can be placed in a funnel and held in place by a moveable perforated locator disk.
As the funnel is filled the level of the liquid in the tank rises and upon reaching the float the whole level indicator assembly rises in the funnel alerting the user to the fact the tank is almost full.
This invention could be made of plastic or a light alloy with the float balanced by small lead shot.
Here follows a detailed discription of the invention with the help of accompanying arawlngs.
FIGURE 1 shows a side view of the level indicator and adjustable perforated locator disk.
FIGURE 2 shows a side view of the level indicator and adjustable perforated locator disk ready for use.
FIGURE 3 shows a sectional side view of the level indicator and perforated adjustable locator disk.
FIGURE 4 shows a view from above of the level indicator and perforated adjustable locator disk in place in a funnel.
FIGURE 5 shows a sectional view of the level indicator in a funnel being used to fill a tank.
FIGURE 6 shows a sectional view of the tank almost full and the float becoming buoyant making the whole body rise in the funnel alerting the user to the tank nearing full capacity.
As shown in figure 1 there is a stem 1 attached to a float 2 and a perforated locator disk 3 that can be placed on the stem from the other end.
As shown in figure 2 the perforated locator disk 3 can be placed anywhere along the length of the stem 1.
As shown in figure 3 the perforated locator disk 3 is held in the desired position by a rubber 'a' ring 4 and the float is balanced with small lead shot 5 to ensure it stays upright.
As shown in figure 4 the perforated locator disk 3 keeps the stem 1 and float 2 in position in the funnel.
As shown in figure 5 the level indicator is in a funnel being used to fill a tank with a liquid and the float 2 is positioned just below the funnel and held there by adjusting the position of the perforated locator disk 3 on the stem 1.
As shown in figure 6 the liquid has reached the float 2 and this has began to rise lifting the stem 1 and perforated locator disk 3 inside the funnel indicating the tank is almost full.

Claims (3)

1 A level indicator that has a balanced float at the bottom which is attached to a hollow stem on which is placed an adjustable perforated locator disk which can be placed in a funnel being used to fill a tank with a liquid.
2 A level indicator according to claim 1 where the adjustable perforated locator disk can be moved up and down the stem to any position.
3) A level indicator according to claim 2 where the disk is positioned on the stem so when it is placed in a funnel bowl it will hold the whole assembly suspended vertically downwards with the float protruding from the funnel spout at the required depth so as to rise when the level of the liquid in a tank being filled reaches it.
3 A level indicator according to claim 2 where the adjustable perforated level locator disk is held at the desired position on the stem by a rubber 'o' ring.
4 A level indicator according to any of the preceding claims in which the adjustable perforated locator disk can be set so that the float is held at the required depth in the tank being filled.
A level indicator according to claim 1 made of plastic or light alloy.
Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows:
S
1) A_level indicator that comprises a float that contains within it a weight at its base for the purpose of keeping the assembly upright when afloat and on its apex is connected a hollow stem on which by way of a central aperture is positioned a disk with a series of holes in it which will allow a liquid to flow through when placed in a funnel.
2) A level indicator according to claim 1 where the disk contains an 'o' ring fixed in its central aperture which will allow it to be moved along to any point on the stem of the float and will then hold it at the desired position.
