Abstract
A sign for expanding the width of an opening, such as a doorway or other similar opening comprises a spring-loaded telescopic support tube 1 that can be compressed and released once in the opening so that expands and lodges itself within the opening. Preferably the support 1 is made of plastic and includes a rubber end stop 3 at either end. The sign itself will preferably be manufactured from flexible material such as PVC sheeting and it may be fixed to the support 1 be means of flexible hooks 1 that are moulded onto the support body.
Description
24 1 6905 l:)escription sign Support The invention relates to a sign
support of a type that is spring loaded enabling it to span the width of a door opening or similar walkway and maintain its position until physically removed.
The object of the invention alms at providing a physical barrier across a doorway (or similar walkway) that a sign can be attached.
The sign denoting a warning or instruction will be fixed to the support by means of hooks moulded onto the support body.
The support will consist of a spring-loaded telescopic tube that can be compressed by hand and released once in position in the opening. Rubber end caps will aid the support fixing and reduce slippage.
Preferably the support body will be made of plastic, the end caps made of rubber and the compression spring made of steel.
Traditionally signs and sign supports used to provide warnings in the cleaning industry are either supported on "A" frames or provided by plastic cones or free standing barriers. These have the disadvantage of often being ignored and are often bulky for cleaning operatives to carry.
It is envisaged that the sign will be of flexible material, preferably durable PVC sheeting. Being flexible, the sign can be wrapped around the support when not in use and therefore be easily transportable. Cont.
A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described Figure 1. Shows the view of the support.
The support comprises of a main body that is a moulded solid bar and cylinder arrangement (l) and a moulded solid piston (2). The end caps (3) are constructed from rubber to prevent slippage when fixed in position. Hooks (43 are moulded on to the main body that allow a flexible sign with holes punched in corresponding locations in the sign to be fixed to the main body of the support.
Figure 2. Shows the internal compression spring mechanism.
The arrangement of the coiled spring (6) allows the piston (2) to be forcefully depressed to allow fitting of the support into a door way or similar opening When the piston is released, the coiled spring will hold the support in position. The purpose of the retaining cap (5) is to prevent the piston from detaching from the main body of the support.
Figure 3. Shows a typical use for the support It is envisaged that the support will be situated close to the top of the doorframe or similar opening and the affixed sign should offer a clear visual warning of the hazard.
Claims (1)
- Claims Claim 1 The advantage of this support over traditional "An frames, cones or freestanding barriers is that the device cannot be moved once fixed without deliberate action.Claim 2 The advantage of this type of support over traditional methods is with the flexible sign wrapped around the support body, it is lightweight and easily transportable by the operative using the device.
