Abstract
A soil spike comprises a hollow tube tapering to a point at one end, preferably at an angle of 70 degrees, the external surface of the or the tapered part being threaded to facilitate insertion into the ground. The lower end of the spike may include drainage holes and the upper portion of the tube may include means for securing a post to the spike, such as a bayonet fitting.
Description
241 6786 Soil Spike This invention relates to a device for fixing a rotary
clothes drier in soil.
When fixing a conventional soil spike for a rotary drier into the soil, it is necessary to use a heaver hammer. First a block of wood is placed on top of the spike (to protect the top of the spike from being damaged by the hammer. Then it is hit hard until the spike sinks into the soil to the required depth.
However, hitting the spike hard with a heavy hammer can result in: a) Personalinjuries b) Wooden block breaking and the top of the spike being damaged anyway and therefore needing to be replaced.
c) The spike being driven in the wrong angle due to lack of control. The spike should be perpendicular to the ground level, if it isn't the clothes pole will be unstable, and when full of heavy, wet clothes spinning in the wind, will eventually fall over.
An alternative system already in current use is to fix the spike into concrete. However, this leaves an unsightly patch if concrete in the lawn.
In addition the fixing process takes much longer, is more expensive and more complicated.
Pare 1 The invention will allow the spike to be screwed into the soil. The invention consists (rather than hammered) of a metal (or any hard wearing material) spike which has a large (20mm) screw-type thread.
This will hold the spike in the soil in the same way that a conventional wood screw holds firmly into the wood.
The invention will now be described on Drawings Page l.

Figure 4. The drier pole will slide into the inside of the top of the spike. The pole will be fixed in place by slotting the two protrusions on the drier pole into the slots. The clothes drier is turned thus turning the spike in sinking it to the soil.
