Abstract

The Emergency Breathing aid comprises a hollow tube casement (1.f.) fitted with an internal length of retractable flexi-hosing (1.c.) fitted with a snorkel mouthpiece (1.a.), a face guard with a strap to secure to the head (1.b) an interchangeable air filter (1.g.)and in addition, a handle with wrist strap (1.e.). The internal flexi-hosing can be pulled from the outer casement (1.f.) and the snorkel mouthpiece (1.a.) inserted in the mouth to enable the user to breathe. A face guard and air filter (1.b. and 1.g.), will ensure tolerance of intense heat and that breathing through the mouth is encouraged to maximize upon the use of clean and semi-polluted smoke infested air, in cases of Domestic and Commercial Fires.

EMERGENCY FIRE STICK
[Technical field] This invention relates to an Emergency Fire Stick.
[ Background]
The Emergency Fire Stick employs the concept of"smoke rises " in any fire within an enclosed space. Previous measures for protection in these circumstances have been restricted to the Emergency Services, in the form of Specialist Equipment.
These are Oxygen Bottles with breathing masks, which are beyond the reach of the average person, in terms of cost, storage and require meticulous training to operate and maintain.
[Essential Technical features] The above mentioned specialist equipment is out of the reach of the general population. However, the Emergency Fire Stick employs nothing more than the natural resources available. Smoke and Heat in confined areas rises, before filling the area from the direction of"top to bottom". The Emergency Fire Stick will use the clean air at floor level, providing a means of escape and vital added time for the user to leave the scene of the fire.
[Example]
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: -, FIG. 1. Shows in perspective, the Emergency Fire Stick in the "inactive" mode, with the flexi-hose retracted inside the outer casement and the mouthpiece and face guard providing a handle. Much like a common walking stick.
FIG.2. illustrates the flexi-hose extended, with the snorkel mouthpiece to be grasped between the teeth of the user. The bottom tip of the Stick is placed at ground level in unpolluted air. The drawings show the Emergency Fire Stick comprises of an integral face guard to encourage the user to breathe orally, with an interchangeable air filter to ensure effective use in circumstances of intense heat. This filter is replaceable. A wrist strap ensures that the Emergency Fire Stick is secured to the user and not lost when visibility deteriorates.
To remount the flexi-hose within the outer casement the steps described above are carried out in reverse sequence.

Claims (6)

  1. EMERGENCY FIRE STICK
An Emergency Fire Stick comprising of a hollow tube casement with an internal flexi-hose, fitted with a mouthpiece, face guard, air filter and safety wrist strap. This invention will seek out and find clean or semipolluted breathable air from the floor of a Domestic or Commercial Fire.
  2. 2. An Emergency Fire Stick as claimed in claim 1 will provide access to breathable air found at the lower levels of a heat and smoke filled room or building.
  3. 3. An Emergency Fire Stick as stated in claim 1 and claim 2 is compact and portable.
Taking up no more space than a conventional walking stick, as the breathing apparatus is a flexi-hose which retracts inside the outer casement unit.
  4. 4. An Emergency Fire Stick, claim 3 has a mouthpiece, face guard and an air filter, fitted to the internal flexi-hose. The mouthpiece and face guard, form a handle to the outer casement when in the inactive mode.
  5. 5. An Emergency Fire Stick as claimed in any preceding claim will act in a similar way as a Blind Person's White Stick by probing and identifying obstacles when the user is in situations of low visibility. This stick is also robust enough to break a glass window and be used in the same manner to obtain clean air.
  6. 6. An emergency breathing aid substantially as shown in and described with reference to the drawings.

    6. An Emergency Fire Stick substantially as described herein with reference to FIG's 1- 2 of the accompanying drawings.
Amendments to the claims Claims 1. An emergency breathing aid composing a hollow tube casement with an internal extendable flext-hose tatted with a mouthpiece and an air kilter, wherein In use the flex hose Is extended to reach a user's face and the end of the tube is held at floor level.
    2. An emergency breathing aid as claimed In claim 1, further comprising a face guard.
    3. An emergency breathing aid as claimed in claim 2, further comprising a strap attached to the face guard for secunug the guard to a user's head.
    4. An emergency breathing aid as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein the flcxi-hose retracts inside the outer casement when not in use.
    5. Len emergency breathing aid as claimed in any preceding claim, further comprising a wrist strap.
