Abstract

An underwater aquarium lamp consists of multiple light emitting diodes 1 (LEDs) encased in a solid water-resistant translucent casing 2, powered by either a battery or external electric supply 6. The translucent casing is preferably manufactured from resin, and can be formed into various shapes. The number and colour of the LEDs can be varied. The LEDs are preferably controlled via a separate control unit 4. The water resistant casing facilitates submersion in a fish tank or aquarium 7.

Description

241 6391 Page 1 Underwater Aquarium Light This invention relates to an
underwater aquarium light.
Aquarium lighting is usually from above and although there are underwater lights available that are functional the lighting unit itself is not usually a visually exciting item.
The invention proposes a submersible aquarium light consisting of a number of Light Emitting Diodes encased in a solid water-resistant translucent casing.
This invention not only provides a light source but also is visually interesting and will help enhance the attractiveness of the aquarium contents.
Preferably the casing will be manufactured from a water-resistant translucent resin.
Preferably electrical current, via a control unit will power the light emitting diodes. It can also be supplied direct from the main supply without the need for the control unit.
An example of the invention will now be described by referring to the accompanying drawing.
Figure 1 Shows the idea which consists of a solid translucent resin shape (2) encapsulating a number of Light Emitting Diodes (l). The translucent resin shape can be made into a number of varying designs as demonstrated in Figures 1,2,3 and 4. The solid translucent shell could also be made from other suitable material. The number of Light Emitting diode (l) used can be varied as demonstrated in Figures 1,2,3 and 4 as can their colour. The resin shape (2) is water-resistant thus facilitating its submersion as demonstrated in Figure 3. This feature allows it to locate underwater in any aquarium (7). The light emitting diodes (1) within the translucent resin shape (2) will be connected to a waterproof electrical supply cable (6) The junction (3) between the resin shape and the electrical cable (6) is also waterproof.
The electrical cable (6) will be connected to and used to supply power to the Light Emitting Diodes (l) The Cable can be connected to the power supply via a control unit (4) as shown in figure 1. Or can supply power to the light emitting diodes direct from a power supply as in figure 4. The Supply connection to the mains electricity is via a standard electrical fused plug (5) The control unit (4) Will be used to enable the operator to control the functionality of the Light emitting diodes (1) The circuitry of the control unit (4) can be designed to give a number of lighting options. It would also be possible to design a control unit, which can accommodate a battery supply so that the unit can be used without the need for a mains power supply as in Figure 2.

Claims (6)
