Abstract

A skate or skateboard with a base plate 1 has a wheel axle 5 which passes through an axle block 6 and at least one shock absorber 3. The shock absorbers 3 may be contained within recesses 2 of the plate 1 or within a suitably shaped tube attached to the plate. The axle block 6 is formed as a bent strip which straddles the shock absorbers 3. The axle block also carries a pivot pin 7 which fits into an elastic cup 8 in a recess 9 of the base plate 1. The arrangement allows the skate to be steered into a turn. A brake may be attached to either end of the base plate.

Claims (10)

1. A roller skate or skateboard with each wheel axle filling into a recess in one or more shock absorbers and into holes in a bent snip, the shock absorbers being securely attached to a base plate, and a pivot on the bent strip being surrounded by an elastic cup or tube in a recess in the base plate at the required angle in relation lo the ground for the correct steering motion lo occur.
2. A roller skate or skateboard according to Claim 1, in which each wheel axle, hent strip and pivot l'orm a bracket, which may be composed of separate components, or which may otherwise be a single component with a mid-section that fits into a shock absorber, and which may he of any suitable geometry or curvature to facilitate the skating performance of the roller skate or skateboard
3. A roller skate or skateboard according to Claims I and 2, in which the mid-sections of brackets fit info recesses in the shock absorbers, the recesses being either in the form of holes into which bolts that serve as wheel axles are inserted, or otherwise being in the form of slotted recesses that allow the shock absorbers to fit around the mid-sections of single-component brackets.
4. A roller skate or skateboard according lo any ol the preceding claims, in which a base plate is suitably shaped for the attachment of shock absorbers and elastic cups or lubes, either with suitably shaped recesses into which the shock absorbers are inserted, or with suitable clips for the attachment of shock absorbers, the base plate being either for both wheel axles or for only one wheel axle, the invention possibly being used [or only one of the wheel axles.
5. A roller skate or skateboard according to any of the preceding claims, in which a shock absorber is attached to a base plate with at least one clip, such as a worm-drive hose-clip, which has a widest : ' . portion that houses a screw and may fit between grooves in the base plate, so that modifications to the steering motion can easily be made by turning the screw to adjust the tension of the clip, which 2 ' at'fects the resistance to the steering motion provided by the shock absorber.
6. A roller skate or skateboard according to any of the preceding claims, in which inserts in the shock absorbers fit around the mid-sections of the brackets, the inserts being of any suitable geometry or I, material properties to enhance the steering motion and prevent damage to the shock absorbers.
7. A roller skate or skateboard according to any of the preceding claims, in which a brake may be secured to a base plate, to a bracket, or to a clip that secures a shock absorber to a base plate.
8. A roller skate or skateboard according to any of the preceding claims, in which a board may not require a base plate if each shock absorber is attached to the hoard together with a pivot that does not move in relation to the hoard, and which passes through a hole in the bent snip of a bracket.
9. A roller skate or skateboard according to any of the preceding claims, in which the angle of the brackets in relation to the ground can be adjusted, allowing the steering motion to be modified by either adjusting the position of the recess into which the pivot on a bracket is inserted, or by adjusting the position of a pivot that fits through a hole in the bent strip of the bracket.
10. A roller skate or skateboard according to any of the preceding claims, in which a base plate may include part of a shoe or the base of a skateboard, therefore reducing the number of components, which may be reduced further by having components of multiple material properties, such as a base plate with shock absorbing material and more rigid material forming a single component, or even a base plate with the geometrical and material properties for a separate bracket to not he required.
