Abstract

A recycling unit with advertising displays. The unit may house various sized bins for the collection of segregated waste material, with at least one hinged access panels d in the housing above each bin to allow the deposit of waste material into each bin. A deflector vane inside the housing alleviates the overfilling of the internal bins. The internal bins may be wheelie bins and are removable from the recycle unit via doors on the front of the unit. In front of the doors is a sliding front fascia c that incorporates non-illuminating poster panels and act as a securing mechanism for the doors to access the internal bins. The sides of the unit may be also have advertising displays that may be illuminated by lighting powered by solar panels a and/or mains electricity. The solar power may also allow the recycling unit to be used for communications and/or detection equipment.

Description

24 1 5886 DescriDtion Refuse & Recycling Receptacle ninth Solar Powered
Lighting The invention relates to a structure which enables the display of lit advertising and the collection of waste and recyclable materials.
Current public recycling facilities are oRen too large and unsightly. often comprising of separate containers for different types of materials. This invention aims to alleviate some of the existing pit-falls associated with these past methods by incorporating a variety of collectable materials into one compact, more aesthetically pleasing housing. The inclusion of lighting on the structure, provides night-time illumination, for a safer, more user friendly environment. The structure has mountings for solar-panels to provide power for the lights via a bank of batteries that can be housed within The inclusion of Solar power also gives rise to the additional benefits that the unit could be also used as a station for communications and or detection equipment.
The invention is a free-standing, transportable unit that can securely hold various sized international standard wheelie bins or other containers for the collection and distribution of diverse materials. The construction of the unit from powder coated steel or similar weather resistant materials, will be of sufficient sturdiness to withstand the elements, in particular, wind resistancefstability.
The housing consists of a number of access doors through which the containers may be passed. Additionally there are separate openings on the top of the bin that allows users to directly drop each type of material into the respective bin or container within.
The use of lighting on the structure allows the unit to be used for illuminating advertising and drawing public awareness to the units facilities. The invention creates an innovative outlet for lit advertising over and above that of traditional advertising methods. By incorporating solar panels and batteries into the unit, the invention does not require a permanent connection to an external power supply, which is in keeping with the environmental ethos of recycling. The lighting units, can use various types of lights such as LEDs, and draw their power from storage batteries and/or mains electricity.
The unit is designed mainly for use on street pavements/sidewalks, shopping centres and areas of high public foot traffic, where the need for recycling and litter disposal is paramount. The advertising posters could be general commercial display or can serve as public information as with regards to local amenities for litter/recycling or other notices, or both. Due to the financial income that can be generated from advertising, it is possible to produce and service the unit with no cost to the end user, and in fact to have a surplus revenue for local authorities or site owners and therefore turn rubbish in to a profit. The unit's principles can also be engaged for other purposes of storage and distribution.
There are 2 non-illuminated poster panels on the sides (c). The front fascia, is made up in part by one of the non-illuminated poster panels, which slides back and forth to act as a securing mechanism for the vertically hinged opening doors (eJ on the front of the unit The sliding panel also secures into place the segmented doors on the symmetrical sloping roof, consisting of 4 vertically hinged access panels (d). These panels have openings for the depositing of material into the respective bins or compartments below. Adjacent to the openings, on the internal side of the access panels are deflecting vanes Gb), that alleviate the problem of overfilling the collection bins beneath. This system enables access to the internal bins by unlocking the front panel (c), sliding * left or right and then opening the front facing doors (e) and lifting the access panels (d). The unit has a back wall (g), two side walls An). The front fascia also consists of a locking door (i) on either side of the unit which provide access to separate housing, where batteries, ballast and lighting control or communication equipment may be stored. There is a wall 6i) separating the battery housing from the main bin area.
The internal skeleton of the unit consists of a rectangular Came. There is a central front leg (n) which is removable so as to allow large bins to be housed inside the structure.
There in a central spine running down the middle of the unit (I) forming the aped Each of the hinged access panels (d) close down onto stanchions (m) attached to the central spine.
Mounted onto either end of the unit are frameworks that form the structure onto which We poster-frames O are attached. Each framework has solar panels (a) mounted on top which can power the illumination (r) of various sized poster advertising (eg.4- sheet or 6-sheet) on Me ends (b).

Claims (1)
