Abstract

The plug-in SMS socket is configured to remotely switch on/off power to household or domestic appliances by SMS text messages. The device is configured as a plug-in socket located between the domestic power supply socket and the plug of an appliance. An SMS message sent from a remote mobile phone is received by the plug-in socket and causes power to be switched on or off to the appliance. The plug-in socket comprises a SIM card and aerial for receiving SMS messages over a GSM network.

Description: plua-in SMS socket
Background:
Whilst people are away from there homes or holiday homes / caravans / chalets, they either rely on other people to turn on there heating, hot water, outside lights or they Just wait until they get in their homes and turn them on themselves and wait for things to warm up.
To overcome this, the presented invention proposes a plug-in switch unit with a incorporated socket and an internal GSM module (mobile phone technology).
The plug-'n SMS socket (unit) is operated by receiving an external text message command (SMS) to its allocated telephone number. Any household appliance that is plugged into the unit can be fumed on and off remotely according to the SMS command. This is achieved by the unit switching the appliances power supply on and off. Examples heaters, hot water, lights etc. Principle & Uses: The unit (Plug-'n SMS socket) would consist of a plug on one side which will fit a standard domestic socket and a socket on the opposite side that will fit a standard domestic plug that is connected to the appliance. The unit is fitted with a GSM module with matching internal PSU and switch gear to function safely and correctly. The SIM port of the GSM module can be accessed externally to allow SIM cards to be added to give the GSM unit its own unique identity. The whole unit will be an off the shelf item available to the general public and can be fitted and maintained very easily meaning no technical or skilled personnel needs to fit it The operation of this is very simple. Plug the unit into a socket and then plug an appliance into the unit, Insert a SIM card and activate it via a set procedure. The unit is then ready to be operated.
Send a text message (or SMS as it is known) to the units own number (for this case lets give the SIM card the telephone number 07968222333), Example; text "ON" to tel. Number 07968222333 the unit responds to the SMS by fuming the appliance on and then the unit returns a SMS back saying for example; message from 07968222333 "UNIT ON" This would be the same principle for fuming the appliance off by sending an SMS "OFF" to the unit.
The Unit could also respond to other commands via SMS like "ON60" which would turn the appliance on for 60 minutes and then turn itself off automatically It could also respond to diagnostic checks like amount of credit remaining and its operation history.
An example of the invention will be shown by drawings on pages 1 to 3.
