Abstract
An insulation system for a chimney liner comprises an insulation material and a hard wearing protective fabric. Then insulation system may comprise 2m lengths, although numerous different lengths may be produced. The lengths may have overlapping edges when installed such that no part of the chimney liner is exposed. The lengths may be stitched with a heat resistant thread. There may be a fastening system comprising eyelets provided on the lengths through which stainless steel stick pins and washers may be attached. The lengths may be 14mm thick. The lengths may be manufactured using needled E-glass and a caramelised woven glass cloth. The lengths may have an operating temperature of 550 {C.
Description
CHIMNEY INSULATION
The invention relates to a chimney insulation. This product is specifically designed for use on chimneys situated within an inglenook fireplace where a wood-burning or solid fuel stove is used.
This unique product solves the problem of insulating a chimney liner, where in the past the whole chimney system would need to have been back-filled with vermiculite- type products after the installation of the chimney liner.
The product provides thermal insulation for the flue liner and prevents cold spots and condensation within the liner, therefore prolonging its life.
The essential feature of this product is that it is only 14mm thickness and is available in up to 2mtr lengths thus enabling quick and easy installation. Most importantly the whole length of the chimney liner can be insulated whilst on the ground and then installation completed quickly and easily up through the inglenook.
The chimney insulation is easy to install due to the eyelets situated along the whole length, through which stainless steel stick pins and washers are fixed. Because the outer face of the product is made of a high quality woven glass fabric, this means that it is extremely robust and will not tear easily if snagged within the chimney.
The product is manufactured using needled E-glass and a caramelised woven glass cloth and the thickness of both materials together is 14mm. An operating temperature of 550 C can be achieved due to the composite materials used and because no resins or binders are used, no volatilization can occur. Likewise, because the chimney liner is manufactured from stainless steel, we therefore use stainless steel stick pins and washers for the closure of the insulation to prevent corrosion. This chimney insulation is absolutely unique and is the only known product which can be installed at ground level. Due to the insulation being installed out of the chimney, all parts of the liner are insulated and it would be virtually impossible to achieve 'dew points', whereas any other insulating materials are installed from the top of the chimney and dropped down and because of this the flue is always in danger of forming 'dew points'.
Claims (5)
1) The chimney insulation carefully incorporates 2 products - an insulation material and a hard wearing fabric to protect it, both being non-combustible.
2) The product has edges which overlap to prevent any part of the chimney liner being exposed.
3) The fastening system not only makes installation simple but prevents corrosion of the chimney liner because it is manufactured from stainless steel.
4) The product being sewn with a heat resistant thread, means delamination will be prevented.
5) Although the product comes as a standard 2mtr length, this is not always suitable if a chimney liner is over 8mtrs long, therefore special sizes can be manufactured on request.
