Abstract
A coiled anchor device comprises diamond section wire which when helically coiled produces a cylindrical device having parallel outer sides and a tapered or stepped inner bore. When a threaded device, such as a screw, enters the anchor device, the bore becomes parallel and the outer sides becomes stepped or tapered.
Description
241 5475 Page 1 Wedge type anchor fixings for threaded, bolts, bars, rods
and devices as known in the prior art use a multiple of sections, which are forced outwards using a wedge device to increase the outer diameter of the sections creating a frictional resistance tightening it into the receiving hole. These either have a specific, or purpose made bolt as in Taylor GB 1309392, Kaufman US 3855896 or a wedge device that is forced into the multiple sections using a specific or purpose made tool as in Miyake US 4520521 All these devices and similar force sections outwards in a radial manner and consist of at least two or more component parts. This new invention consists of only one component part, this being a tapered element of a coiled spring, Prior art as known in Cram US 2586007 has a tapered element for the easy insertion of a threaded element into the parallel thread but is not tapered along its length and does not expand the wire coils as this invention device does when a threaded device is inserted According to the present invention there is provided a tapered element of a length of a sectional wire, rod or similar, which, when coiled in a helical manner with a plurality of coils will have an outer parallel male diameter and a tapered parallel pitch female thread that will expand to a parallel female thread when a matching male parallel threaded driven device is rotated such that it applies a force to the inner female tapered element of the coiled wire, rod or similar in a gradual manner whereby it expands to a parallel diameter forming a conical wedge on the outer male diameter of the coils creating a frictional resistance or be impressed into the inns longitudinal periphery of the hole that it has been inserted iron thereby securing the driven threaded device into the material into which the invention has been inserted A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with rclerence to the accompanying drawings in which: Fig I shows the configuration of the wire or rod and the tapered element Fig 2 shows the greater of the two end sections Fig 3 shows the lessor of the two end sections Fig 4 shows an alternative end section Fig 5 shows an alternative end section Fig 6 shows an alternative end section Fig 7 shows the section of the device and the tapered element Fig 8 shows the device in use The invention fig 7 is a helical coiled wire, rod or similar device with a plurality of helical coils having a parallel outer male diameter fig 7 Xl-X2 on each coil and a tapered inner female diameter on each coil between distal ends fig 7 Yl and Y2 The invention is made from a tapered or partially tapered drawn, extruded rolled or otherwise manufactured wire, rod or similar fig 1 having an end section fig 1 1.4. The length of wire, rod or similar fig 1 between distal ends 1.2 and 1.3 is the required length of wire or rod for the fully coiled length of the invention fig 7 which can be of any length for which it is required.
The wire, rod or similar fig 1 is tapered between distal end 1.2 md distal end 1.3 whereby distal end 1.3 is the greater dimensions of the taper and distal 1.2 is the lessor dimensions of the taper. . There may also be a parallel section along this length between the distal end 1.2 and distal end 1.3 to form when coiled, an inner parallel section fig 7 7.2 of female thread on the invention fig 7 for easier insertion of the threaded device 8.1.
The taper on the rod wire or similar can be a straight continuous angle or line fig 1 1.1 between the distal end 1.3 and the distal end 1.2 or can be a line fig 1 1.1 with one or more angles or can be a curved line with one or more radu or can be stepped with a plurality of steps depending on the pitch, angles or forms of the threaded device 8.1 for which it is required.
Page 2 The sectionalshape and requirement fig 1 1.4 ofthewire, rodorsimilarateachdistalend 1.2and 1.3 will vary to the requirements of the thread pitch, angle, shape or form, or taper and is suitable for, by way of example but not limited to, Metric.
