Abstract

A display board particularly for use inside vehicle windows comprises a substantially planar body (11) having a plurality of window (18) therein arranged in a predetermined array with at least one respective pocket (19, 21) located behind the window for holding an information sheet (26) . The sheet (26) has indicia (28) thereon located in pre-determined position for display through select windows of said plurality.

Description

A Display Board
Field
This invention relates to an information display board which is usable for displaying prices and other information and is especially for use with cars or commercial vehicles.
Background of_the Invention
When displaying vehicles for sale, garages need to place notices displaying price information relating to specific vehicles on or in proximity to the vehicle. A known method of displaying the information is to place a notice board within a vehicle and which is mounted on the sun visor and/or mirror. The notice typically hangs vertically downwards and is viewed through the vehicle windscreen.
The notice may also be affixed to a vehicle window by suckers or double sided adhesive tape.
Known display boards typically comprising a substantially planar body with a front face and a rear face and having a plurality of spaced apart windows therein each with a respective pocket located on the rear face behind each window for holding a card or folded paper having at least one alpha numeric symbol thereon for display through the respective window. Such a display board is shown in GB-A- 2372619 or GB-A-2171831 A problem with the above type of display is that an individual card or folded sheet must be placed into each pocket in turn to build up information, and in order to change information, for example a price, each card may need to removed from its respective pocket and a new card substituted, or each folded sheet must be removed, refolded to displace another number, and then replaced in the respective pocket.
The present invention provided a display board having a display which is easier to change.
According to the present invention there is provided a display board having a substantially planar body with a front face and a rear face with a plurality of spaced apart windows therein arranged in a predetermined array, typically at least one linear array, at least one pocket located on the rear face behind a plurality of windows for holding a respective printed information sheet, the sheet having indicia thereon located in predetermined positions for display through a plurality of select windows of said plurality of windows.
The board has the advantage that the display through the plurality of windows to the front of any pocket can all be changed simultaneously simply by removing the printed information sheet and replacing by another sheet having differing indicia thereon.
The body may be formed from a sheet polyolefin such as high density polyethylene or polypropylene. The windows to the front of the or each pocket may be arranged in rows one row above another.
The board may be provided with two pockets arranged side by side each pocket having an information sheet therein.
For each pocket, a transparent polymeric film layer is located on the rear face of the body behind the windows.
The polymeric film layer helps the insertion of the information sheet.
A tongue may be located at a centre portion of the upper edge of the body and is formed into a hook shape for hanging the display board from a suitable support, e.g. a sun visor.
The pockets are formed in a single flat sheet adhered to the rear of the board, preferably using double sided adhesive tape which may also be used as a separator between adjacent pockets.
According to a second aspect of the present invention there is provided a method of displaying indicia on a display board, wherein the board has a substantially planar body with a front face and a rear face with a plurality of spaced apart windows in a predetermined array, in said method the board is provided with at least one pocket located on the rear face behind a plurality of windows each pocket in use holding a respective printed information sheet, wherein the sheet is printed with indicia thereon which are located in predetermined positions on the sheet which align with a plurality of select windows, the sheet then being shaped to its respective pocket for insertion therein, and inserting the sheet in the pocket to provide simultaneous display of the indica through said plurality of windows.
DescriDtion of the Drawings The invention will be described by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Fig. 1 is a front elevation of a display board according to the present invention, Fig. 2 is section of the board taken on the line II-II of Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is a rear elevation of the board shown in Fig. 1, and Fig. 4 is a view of the information sheets.
Detailed Description of the Invention
With reference to Figs. 1 to 4, there is shown a display board 10 which comprises a planar body 11 and a tongue 12 extending away from one edge of the body. The body may be any desired shape and this case for example only is rectangular with a rear face 13 and a front face 14. The body 11 is formed from a sheet of a relatively light rigid material for example, cardboard or a light rigid polymeric sheet, such as a polypropylene sheet The tongue 12 is located at the centre portion of a longer upper side of the a body 11 and is formed integrally with the body 11 from the same sheet material. The tongue 12 may be folded along fold lined 15 & 16 to form a hook 17 for suspending the display board 10 from a suitable support such as rear view mirror or a sun visor.
The body 11 has a plurality of apertures or windows 18 formed through the body. In this example there are fourteen rectangular windows, however any desired number of windows of any desired shape may be used. Pockets 19 & 21 are formed on the rear face 13 behind the windows 18. Each pocket 19 & 21 is associated with a plurality of windows 18A & 18B respectively. The windows 18B to the front of pocket 21 are arranged in rows, with one row above the other row. The windows 18 to the front of pocket 19 are arranged as a single large window 18C above a row of windows 18A.
The pockets 19 & 21 are conveniently formed from a single planar sheet 22 which is adhered to the rear face 13 of the body by means of double sided adhesive tape 23. The tape may also be used to form a mutual partition wall 24 between the two pockets 19 & 21.
The pockets 16 are open at their upper ends and are dimensioned to receive information sheets 25,26 or similar display items which fill the windows and may for example display alpha-numeric information.
The windows 18 are filled with a transparent PET film sheet 27 which sits within each pocket and is adhered to the rear face of the body 11.
The information bearing sheets 25 & 26 have a plurality of indicia 28 thereon. The indicia 28 are arranged on their respective sheet in predetermined locations which in use align with the spaced windows for display through a selected window. The sheets 25,26 are shaped by trimming or folding for insertion into the respective pockets 19,21 through their open upper end. The indicia, for example numbers, are displayed through individual windows that when read in ordered sequence indicate the sale price of a vehicle. Alternatively, as for window 18C, the information sheet 25 may be provided with an area containing typed information which is displayed through the select window.
The holder is preferably for use on the inside of a vehicle adjacent the front screen or rear screen. The board is sufficiently light in weight and has sufficient rigidity to hang form its support.
