Abstract

A dental diagnosis mirror having a high intensity LED 3 incorporated into the base of the body 2 at the intersection with the mirror 4 and a detachable power source 1. Preferably the mirror has a cylindrical cross-section and the LED 3 may be powered by a detachable battery pack or a single, detachable battery which may be rotated for on/off operation. Alternatively, the dental mirror may have a flat, rectangular cross-section and a detachable battery pack with a simple integrated switch and twin prong plug and socket. The LED 3 may reflect light off the mirror 4 to enhance illumination of the patent's mouth.

Description

Mirror with Light This invention relates to a dentist diagnosis mirror
with a high intensity LED incorporated into the handle and detachable power source When a dentist is examining a patient's teeth & gums using the standard diagnosis mirror, they are required to align the overhead lamp onto the mouth, and rely on the light to reflect from the mirror and illuminate the dark area within the mouth.
To overcome this, the present invention proposes adding a high intensity LED to the base of the body at the intersection with the mirror. The LED being powered by a detachable power source, at the opposite end of the body of the instrument, to enable the power source to be removed and the instrument sterilised The LED attached to the oral examination instrument will reflect light directly off the mirror and enable the dentist to clearly see the area they are inspecting in the mirror, as well as lighting up the whole area of the mouth.
The high intensity LED uses lower power consumption, has a greater light output and is smaller in size in comparison to a standard electrical bulb of that dimension.
The invention will enable both dentists and domestic users to examine their teeth and gums more thoroughly and easier than relying on day light or electric light to illuminate the mouth area An example of the invention will now be described by referring to the accompanying drawings: o Figure I & 2 show a cylindrical dentist diagnosis mirror with a high intensity LED incorporated into the base of the body at the intersection with the mirror, with a detachable power source Figure 1 shows a 3 dimensional illustration Figure 2 shows a side elevation illustration Figures 3 & 4 show detailed drawings of the features of that model o Figure 5 & 6 show the same dentist diagnosis mirror with an alternative cylindrical battery Figure 5 shows a side elevation illustration Figure 6 shows a detailed drawing of the different feature of that model o Figures 7 & 8 show a narrow rectangular model of the aforementioned dental diagnosis mirror with a high intensity LED and detachable twin pronged plug Figure 7 shows a side elevation illustration Figures 8 & 9 show detailed drawings of the different features of that model In Figures I & 2, a dental diagnosis mirror with a cylindrical cross-section has a high intensity LED - white in colour (3) - incorporated into the base of the body (2) at the intersection with the mirror (4). The LED is set at the appropriate angle to the mirror, this will be dependent on the type of LED and the angle of the light emitted A detachable power source (1) with two 3 volt button type (CRl220) cells (7) , as illustrated in figure 4, connected in series to give 6 volts to power the LED. The power is switched by rotating the power source (1) which has a modified jack plug (9) and socket (8) as illustrated in figure 4. The main body is injection moulded with conductive wire (5 & 6) as illustrated in figures 3 & 4 running through the centre to supply LED with power In figure 5, the cylindrical model with all operating characteristics and technical features as laid out in figures 1 & 2, with the exception of the power source ( 10). This power source is a cylindrical alkaline battery, GPI IA, (11), as illustrated in figure 6, which is switched by rotating, as illustrated in figure 4.
In figures 7 & 8, an alternative model in which the body is moulded to a narrow rectangular cross-section with the same operating characteristics and technical features as laid out in figures I & 2, with the exception ofthe power source (12). This power source has the cells positioned vertically in line with the instrument, as illustrated in figure 9, with a simple integrated switch and twin prong plug and socket arrangement
