Abstract

An inverted mains plug consists of an insulated housing containing a fuse d and three pins a , b, c for electrical power transmission. The appliance connection cable exits the plug at point e beside the Earth pin c.

Description

241 4605 ll\VERTED ELECTRICAL PLUG This patent refers to an inverted
electrical plug.
The standard three pin (240-volt) electrical plug, which conforms to British Standard BS1363, consists of an insulated housing containing a fuse and connections to three square pins, which protrude through the housing. The pins make the connections to the power supply when the plug is installed In the appropriate socket.
The three supply connections are Earth, Neutral and Live (via the fuse).
The cable from the plug to the appliance to be powered emerges between the Neutral and Live terminals.
There are instances, in confined spaces or when the appliance to be powered is above the electrical socket outlet, when it would be advantageous if the cable emerged from plug beside the Earth connection (i.e. at the "top" of the plug) The specific embodiment of this invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying diagram which shows: The general internal construction of the Inverted Electrical Plug.
The Plug has three connections: Live (a); Neutral (b); Earth (c) and an internal fuse (d).
The appliance connection cable exits the plug at pomt "e" beside the Earth Pin.
