Abstract
A wall mounting device comprises two main parts; the cradle 5 fixes to the wall, while the saddle 1 supports two T-bars 3 which fix to the back of the object to be hung. Prior to hanging, the device may be offered up to the preferred position on the wall and levelled using the built in spirit level 2. The position is marked though fixing holes 5a. To hang the object the saddle is mounted in the cradle. The saddle may be fitted with security pins 4. These fit into slots in the cradle and may be secured by a security rod 6a. The system may also be fitted with an alarm system operated by a pressure pad 7a.
Description
AN OBJECT OR PICTURE HANGING DEVICE WITH OPTIONAL SECURITY
APPLICATION
Hangings/pictures/posters are mostly hung on walls by the use of string/wire stretched between the two vertical sides of the frame at the rear of the object, secured by eyelets or tacks. One or two screws or hooks in the wall are then employed to receive the stretched string/wire, thus hanging the device.
This common method of fixing suffers from the disadvantage that the hanging is not parallel to the wall, (ascetically unpleasing), often hangs crooked requiring constant straightening, raises concerns of the hanging falling due to string/wire break, and has implications for security in Galleries and other display areas with the ease of lifting the hanging from its wall mounting.
This invention provides the following advantages: Keeps the hanging parallel to the wall Ensures that the hanging is exactly horizontal due to an integrated spirit level Is well secured to the wall to lessen the likelihood of the hanging falling Can incorporate a method of securing the hanging to the wall to prevent easy lifting of the hanging Can incorporate a wireless security device which will warn if the hanging is removed from it's mounting The device is adjustable to accommodate a range of hangings, and can be manufactured to include a range of devices for any size of hanging Preferably this device is made of aluminium or plastic according to the size and weight of the hanging.
A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1: shows a plan view of the complete assembly As shown in figure 1, the device consists of a Saddle (1) which has two horizontal slots (la) to house the 'T' bars (3). (Holes (3a) in the vertical section of the 'T' bars are used to secure the device to the hanging). A spirit level (2) is housed in the top of the saddle and is parallel to the base of the Saddle. Optional Security Pins (4) protrude from the base of the Saddle, and seat into slots in the Cradle (5). The Cradle has holes (5a) which allow the complete device to be mounted on the wall. A horizontal hole (6) which will allow Security Rod (6a) to be positioned from the side of the hanging, (once hung), pushed through the Cradle and Security Pins, and a Nut (6b) screwed onto the end of the Security Rod. An optional Wireless Alarm Module (7) operated by Pressure Pad (7a) built into the Cradle (5) can also be included for additional security.
When the vertical arms of the 'T' bars (3) are unfolded from the horizontal and pivoted to an adjacent position (90 ) and inserted into the Saddle slots (la), the device is placed on the back of the hanging and the 'T' bars adjusted to its width.
Once the width is established, the Saddle (1) with attached 'T' bars (3) shall be married up to the seat of the Cradle (5). The complete device is then offered up to the preferred position on the wall and adjusted into the perpendicular by using the integrated Spirit Level (2). When satisfied, the position is marked through the holes (Sa) which allow the Cradle to be attached to the wall by nails/screws.
The complete Saddle arrangement, which is separated from the Cradle (5), (now affixed to the wall), will be placed onto the back of the hanging and secured in place by screws/tacks through holes (3a), (or a strong adhesive may be used).
The hanging, complete with attached Saddle arrangement can now be hung onto the wall by lowering it into its Cradle receptacle.
Claims (4)
1. The hanging device can be used as a template against the wall to identify the preferred position for the wall hanging to be hur g.
The device, (in two main parts), is simple for one person to use and fix to the wall so that it remains parallel lo the ground, the second part is securely and squarely fixed to the picture, mirror etc by 4 screws or sticking pads.
The device is adjustable to accommodate a range of hangings, and can be manufactured to include a range of devices for any size of hanging.
2. Is well secured to the wall and picture, mirror etc to lessen the likelihood of the hanging falling.
3. Can incorporate a method calf securing the hanging to the wall to prevent easy lifting of the hanging.
4. Can incorporate a wireless security device which will warn if the hanging is removed from its mounting.
