Abstract

A location marker e.g. for use in the location of a utility (such as a water or gas pipe) comprises a coloured washer (2) which can be secured to a surface by a fastener such as a screw or nail (1). The colour of the washer (2) can be varied to correspond with the particular utility being marked.

Description

241 3607 Title Utility marker
Background
This invention relates to a utility works marker. It is a specific location marker for use in roadwork's (marking of pipe location), works undertaken in houses, buildings and underground. The markers are hammered or pushed into the area to be 'marked', so that the specific location of the work undertaken can be identified. This work can take place in vertical walls, on roads or elsewhere where utility works have been undertaken.
Statement of Invention
To overcome the problem of marking a location, devices are on the market using satellite technology. These systems are very expensive. The Utility marker overcomes this problem of cost by using a coloured marker with built in (or attached) screw to be drilled, hammered or pushed into the area of work being undertaken. On road works, the tarmac is usually wet once work has been completed and the marker can easily be pushed into the ground. The colour of the marker notates the work undertaken for the specific 'utility', i.e. blue for water. The markers are small and easily embedded into tarmac, walls etc. When works are being inspected, or further faults or fault finding is required, then the markers act as a precise guide to where the previous works took place. The markers can also be inscribed with further information, such as the location of other area's of work undertaken, to be undertaken, or any area of the pipe that may need to be located at any tithe.
Advantages The marker reduces the need for costly alternatives.
The marker allows swift and precise location of location of works having been/ being or about to be undertaken.
Preferably, the marker will be one piece to allow easy insertion. The marks can also be two-piece to allow the screw to go through the marker to enable insertion to uneven surfaces and at angles into the surface (wall, road etc.) in which it is to be fixed. r
An example of the invention will now be described by referring to the accompanying drawings: -Figure I shows the utility marker (2 piece). The screwfxing (1) and the plastic marker (2) are both shown. Pagel/4.
-Figure 2 shows the utility marker as a one piece, or alternatively, as a 2 piece with the screw f sing (I) from f gure I inserted through the plastic marker (2) from f gure 1. Page 2/4 -Figured shows the utility marker as a one piece, or alternatively, as a 2 piece with the screw f wing (1) from f gure I inserted through the plastic marker (2) from f gure I as a photographic representation. Page 3/4.
-Figure 4 shows the utility marker (2 piece). The screw f wing (1) and the plastic marker (2) are both shown. Page 3/4.
-Figure 5 shows the marker as a one piece with the marker and the f Ding screw attached as a photographic representation. Page 4/4.
-Figure 6 shows the marker as a two-piece with the screw and utility marker attached as a photographic representation. Page 4/4.

Claims (4)

  1. Claims: I A utility marker used to identify Utility (and other) work
locations, the marker is attached with the screw f wing through the marker in order to be embedded into the surface/f wing area.
  2. 2. A marker system according to claim 1, in which the marker is detachable from the screw f wing prior to insertion.
  3. 3. A utility marker according to claim 1, in which the length and size of the screw f wing may be varied or adjustable.
  4. 4. A utility marker according to claim 1, in which the size of the circumference of the marker may be varied or adjustable.
