Abstract

A violin, viola, cello or guitar, having a back which is curved in a more deeply convex fashion than normal, particularly at the end adjacent to the neck of the instrument, resulting in a soundbox of greater depth than is usual for these instruments. The depth of the soundbox at the tail end of the instrument is less than at the neck end, enabling the musician to support a violin or viola while playing in the normal way, ie on the shoulder.

[Background] This invention relates to a new 'soundbox' for violins, violas, cellos or guitars.
When in manufacture, preferably, of coarse, using the same type of wood as the original instrument (See drawing 1): - my idea, as an inventor, is to copy the upside-down idea of a church, or cathedral, roof; it is well known that the aforesaid buildings have excellent 'sound' qualities.
[Essential Technical Features] It is common sense to see that one-third of the said violin would need to rest on the violinist's shoulder; therefore my invention would apply as in drawing 1.

    This (my) invention is an improvement to violins, violas, cellos and guitars (the same principle applies to all of them).
